Simon. I saw the earlier pics I didn’t see it the paint brought it out for me I didn’t think you would have left dust on it just making sure my hero is not going soft lol
Hi Simon
That AK paint looks nice. I don't know how many shades are included but often these sets have rather extreme colours at each end. I have a German Grey set, not AKs, and the deep shadow is virtually black and the lightest is too bright. Your idea of dry brushing the lightest tone is a very good idea.
Jim
Lee - would have had to have my eyes closed to leave that much dust on it :smiling5:
Jim - six. You are right, the dark base is not far removed from the black primer and the shine is way too bright in any large amount
As suggested by Paul rather than strip the whole thing I decided to give the whole turret a light sanding with Scotch pad to remove the pronounced nibs off the high parts, which is what I should have done before painting :rolling:
This left most of the green with red spots where the Scotch pad had done its business
A bit of dry brushing with three of the green shades soon had it restored without too much trouble
still looks rough as a bears **** in the photo but it is actually much improved so i will leave it now
also got some track primer on one of the track units
Simon.
Morning.
Just checking in on the paint front.:nerd:
Looks good, I agree with the dry brushing , those sets are ok but the lighter colours are too bright. Prefer to spray black or dark brown first into the shaded areas, then light coats of 4BO.
Turret.
You could sand a little more on those high spots, but look on here how the lower cast mark is so pronounced.
I use black primer so the 'dark base' is almost the same John - probably more use if spraying over a grey primer
Yes, some of those T34/85's are really rough - I used the red paste to create the vertical casting marks on the base of my turret
will try and remember to Scotch pad the next one before painting it :smiling4:
gave it a coat of Ultra Matt yesterday morning then last night it got covered in 'brown wash for dark green'
I am sure all these potions are the same just with a different name on the bottle - no matter what the name says the contents are always brown
Nice wash Simon...have you tried Lifebouy, Ponds or other brands and are not brown :tears-of-joy: :tears-of-joy: I have seen some AK stuff that have tones specifically for their genre like Desert and Ships but I still mix my own at times. Dark brown is normally the general tone for armour though.
Looking good Simon. Great detail on the build and nice paint job. Seems to me that the best use for the lightest modulation colour is perhaps to replicate the edge highlighting and reflective spots illustrated in John’s picture above?
