That Mig stuff is like throwing battery acid at the decals

Morning all,
Varnish is still as sticky as it was yesterday - not a good sign
Also not totally convinced by the Mig system before I start - reading the books again there are inconsistencies
For instance it tells you to gloss varnish it to protect the paint then says the filter should be applied over matt paint :rolling: Also other inconsistencies about when to do what
If the varnish doesn’t set though then it is a total non starterComment

Simon,
That looks better. I can remember you starting it, but looks a lot better now it is in paint.
Cheers, Mike.Comment

Probably too late now Mr T but I do all the acrylic work first; before adding decals I add a coat of Gloss Varnish where the decals go, add decals, once dry cover the whole model in Matt varnish; then start annihilating it with weathering oils and pigments. There have been many discussions on the forums about varnishes but it seems Klear and Windsor Newton work the best. The hand painted DAK insignia is sublime. You must have a very steady hand. Lets hope you have some better success soon with the new fangled weathering substancesComment

Thanks Mike
Steve - thanks. Trying to follow the process set out in the Mig Ammo books to see if I can get anything that looks roughly similar - the vague bits and/or the contradictions add to the general confusion
John - you could be right. The main thing they add is consistency. The various washes etc stay the same each time they are used whereas home mixed ones don't tend to. Remains to be seen whether this will help me achieve a better finish in the end
The stickiness was finally gone so last night I gave it a coat of ochre for light sand filter, which is just a really thin wash
Day off work again today - another medical appointment - so should be able to try the next step this afternoonComment

Cheers Jim - diabetes thing this time. Blood sugars are too high. Having previously been told stuff to eat have now been told it is all bad for my levels and have to stop eating it all. Then given a leaflet of what to eat/not to eat and it lists all the stuff I was eating as ok!
Totally confused now so that was time well spent - NOT!
Anyway, haven’t keeled over just yet so on with the painting....
It has now had a wash of enamel dark grime around the details and in all the nooks and cranniesComment

Simon,
Looking good mate. what do you think of the product I must admit I think for now I will stick with my cheapskate versionsComment

Scottie - It seems ok but whether it is any better than making your own, probably not really. What it does have on its side is consistency - the effect should be pretty much the same each time. The fact that it is enamel based and can be moistened with thinner and removed to tidy up the edges is useful as well.
As with most modelling products it is not cheap, especially to get a good selection but now I have it it should last for quite some time
Still have a few other things to try such as the oilbrusher and pigments, engine oil stains, wet effects, streaking stuff - may not throw them all at this build but it will be getting dust and fadingComment
