1/72 PSC Sextons x3 - paint and decals

    Hi all

So Junior have been working on this for while.

I actually helped this kit come into existence through a crowd funding project run by the Plastic Soldier Company and so I was really looking forward to the build.

Unfortunately, the kit had a number of issues - bad sink holes, bad mouldings and worst of all the left hand side didn't fit properly. The internal floor/hull had had to be shaved down a lot so that the would fit. Not at all like PSC and so it took a bit of shine of the build process.

As usual I've used photos as inspiration if not a direct copy and so I decided to open up one of the drivers hatches which as you will see below took a lot of work.

At the moment the gun and tracks are dry fitted to make painting easier - an 'exploded' one is below.

    ACW as usual.

    Andrew

      Hi Steve

They've already been primed as part of last week's mass spray booth session. Hopefully they will see paint this weekend.

            Andrew,
Great work with the kit especially after the intro pointed out all the problems.

              Hi all

So yet another decal victim this week.

These as usual are marked up as Junior's 11th Armoured Division but I noticed some interesting issues with the markings when doing my research.

First up is that the markings on the photos from WW2 for this unit (and there are quite a few) show that the it always had the divisional marking (the Bull) and the 'arm of service' marking the '76' the wrong way round. The bull should be on the right and the '76' should be on the left. This unit seems to only have had them the other way round.

Secondly, and more intriguingly, the '76' should be a '74'.

The '74' was used for the 'senior' artillery regiment in a division (13th Regt Royal Horse in this case) which from what I can see only used self-propelled artillery in NWE as per all armoured division. The '76' was used by the 'junior' regiment, in this case 151st (Ayrshire Yeomanry) Field Regt, which only used towed 25 pounders in NWE. So either the division used the 74 and the 76 the wrong way round or the 51st (Ayrshire Yeomanry) also used Sextons in NWE at some point.

              ACW as usual.

Excellent little collection there Andrew. I'll be getting their 15mm (1/100) version in due course and I hope the fit is better on that - my renovative skills are very limited so I don't want to have to sort problems out in such a small scale. I have to say I'm surprised you had build problems though, 'cos normally PSC kits go together with absolutely no problems.

Thanks for the support! As you say most unlike PSC, perhaps they rushed things?

I hope yours go together well. Make sure you part some pics!
