Lee Drennen’s 1/48 Tamiya Tiger I Early Production

With a couple of my builds wrapping up this week thought I
would face demon with trying to build those link tracks. This is my first try at link tracks this is why I put this build away a couple years ago. The right side is not so good the left is a little better after I decided to do it my way instead what the instructions say. Hope to get some paint on this by the weekend

Nice to see this one done Lee. Did it go together okay? Looking forward to seeing the colour scheme you go for

Steve. Thanks for the complement and stopping by. It when together very well out side the wheels and tracks that was my fault I never put linked tracks together but after I got the hang of it they were pretty fun to put together

Well I’ve got this painted a couple months ago and here lately I’ve been wanting to work on this a bit and try to finish it also. Tonight I gave it a light weathering and painted the tracks. Next up is the decals and the tow cables.

Don't forget to detail paint the tools Lee - jack block, wire cutters etc etc :thumb2:

What colour did you use on the tracks? Can't tell in the pics

Simon. I won’t forget them. I’ve painted the metal with parts and cutters with the graphite pencil next will be the handles which will be kinda a dark wood color I like to use instead of most I’ve seen are a light blonde color like there new handles. I’ll get a better pic of the tracks I gave them a wash that you see in the pic and went over them with a Graphite pencil for a wore metal look. This is my first time putting together Lincoln Link Tracks and the wheels kinda gave me a little trouble also but I did the best I could. Thanks for stopping by.

I've read somewhere that when tanks were field painted tools where left in situ and sprayed over, and road wheels weren't masked........the horror.....it also doesn't sound very "German". (Not wishing to perpepuate steroatypes.)

                      Hi Lee
Looks good. Tracks look fine so worth the effort. I rather like 1/48 scale.
                      Jim

Removing the tools before painting would make the camouflage less effective. Here is a well-known photo of some German soldiers spraying a Tiger II in the field, in France in 1944:

If you look closely, you can tell the pattern goes over the tow cable, barrel cleaning rods and whatever else is on the side of the hull.

Also notice they didn’t leave off the tracks until after painting

And I've heard it's still the norm today.

I also wonder what size nozzle he's using?

Paul. Thanks for the complement not my best build it was a real learning curve.

Jim. Thanks for the complement 1/48 has a special place in heart so detail and
                              accurate glad you like it.
