I live in Sheffield and my wife is a huge football fan. If I painted a tank in "the other team's" colours, I'd be out on the street!
Well how about - blue & white?? A ermmm Israeli, Finnish, Greek, Argentinian hybrid - operating in El Salvador with a Nicaraguan commander, Honduran radio operator, Somalian gunner and a driver that has only ever driven on an island in Micronesia??? :smiling2:
So I finally came up with an idea for the paint on this and decided to have a bit of fun.
To be honest it's come out a bit more J D Sports than BAE Systems, but what the heck, prototype tank, prototype paint job :smiling5: Better than it sitting in the box for weeks anyway, and it certainly breaks up the dull look!
There's more work to do but it's a start. There won't be too much in the way of weathering but I'll try and bring out the panel lines a bit, and maybe add a few translucent layers of the darkest colour to tone it down a bit. A matt coat should do that as well, since it's far too shiny straight out of the airbrush.
Andy, mind you I'm not poking fun as the paint job looks flawless. But my first thought was
"Psychedelic Checkerboard"! …….that is " Far Out". Cheers, Rick H.
I picked out the panel lines with W&N oils. My first proper go with them and they are so much better than the cheap ones I tried & failed to use before!
I also used VMS decal solution on this. I bought it because John was out of stock of Microsol but it'll be my first choice from now on. First decal went a bit wrong and has a bit of silvering, but I used more solution under the decal for the others and they have gone brilliantly.
Lenses were picked out with various Mr Color clear gloss paints over a base of black, trying to replicate the colours on the real thing where I could. Some of the details had a bit of artistic license, but then as a prototype, anything goes!
Paint job is still funky but I like it, which is what matters :smiling3: Sorry about all the dust & fluff! The matt coat dried a bit fast in the 35°C heat of the shed so it's a bit rough to the touch and picks up everything.
