Do you mean: “is the Comet a Cromwell with a 17-pounder?” (I ask because I didn’t quite understand the question ) The answer to that is “essentially, yes.” The Comet is a development of the Cromwell with different (wider) wheels and track (plus return rollers added), a new turret with the 77-mm gun and assorted minor changes.

The 77-mm gun was a development of the 17-pounder to shorten its cartridge case so it would be easier to fit the gun inside a turret, and to handle the ammunition inside a vehicle. The projectiles were exactly the same, but the cases shorter and (off the top of my head) fatter, with less propellant. As a result, it was less powerful but that actually benefitted the weapon, it turned out. The name was changed to prevent confusion and the wrong ammo being delivered to units.

Sorry, Typo. Got you, I always thought it was a straight-up 17pounder in the Comet, I didn't know it was a modified gun based on the 17pdr.

The 17pdr was fitted to the A30 Challenger, which was a lengthened Cromwell hull, Six wheels per side instead of five! Then they re-used the name for the Challenger 1 & 2 more recently.

I converted two Revell 1:72 Cromwells to a single Challenger some years ago. Not that easy a conversion, but also not that hard. I kind of want one in 1:35 … someday

SKP Model did an A30 Challenger in 1/35, I have one lurking in the stash, not sure if they are available any more. You would think one of the manufacturers would think of doing one.

I knew of that kit, but never bought (let alone built) it. SKP still exists, but the Challenger shows as both on sale and out of stock on their site

WIP update; started adding texture lining to the bodywork edges, I'll clean up then with some inter-shading

                      Hi Alexander

That's coming on very nicely indeed.

                      Well done.

                      Andrew

Last toning is done not until decals then oils.
I think I could have cut some steps out as the photo don't capture the subtle texture add with AB

Looking great Alexander. Seems a kit you can have real fun with.

It's an excellent kit; I fancy building the 75mm version with turret bins next. I have a load of stowage for it, I don't know if I should add it all

Post your mistakes and your successes, messed up two for the Polish decals, not sure how.
I need to find some replacements, open to ideas
