Whirlwind/Eastwind had fewer changes to super structure.

dont know about the camo......sort of freehanded it........used the right RAL colours but wasnt happy with the green, bit too dark so went over again with 4BO..........................should all tone down when its gets a wash and matt clear coat

next step is build the AA gun, and then a shiny coat ready for a wash

Looking good Paul. Most camo patterns look harsh when first applied but gets sorted with the next steps.

                Paul,
Looking good mate, as Jim said the cammo will tone down down during the next steps.

now ready for a brown wash

i dread to think how old this kit is.............been in my stash for 15 years and i got it second hand in a bundle on ebay!

so no surprise the decals gave some problems......had to dig into the decal spares for a few

looking good Paul the wash should tone down the cammo and tie it all together.

                      Hi Paul
Nice work. Many decals just don't age well. Given how long this kit has languished in your stash I'm surprised any worked.

What went wrong with the decals? Tamiya ones usually hold up very well with age, is my experience, but they do take very long to soak off the backing paper. If you try to move them too soon (within five minutes or so, if not longer than that), chances are they won’t budge or will break because only part has come loose yet.

wouldnt come off even after 10 minutes in hot water!.......was easier to give up and have a look in the spares box

I’ve had brand new Tamiya decals do that. In fact I’ve had one end of them floating in the surface of the water, but still immovably stuck at the other end. By far the worst part in their kits IMHO.

Same, but only in kits released up to about the late 80s, I think. The weird thing is that newly produced versions of those old kits still had the decal problem when new-release kits didn’t … Either they had enough of those decals to still be putting them into kits 20 years later, or they kept ordering them from the same manufacturer even after switching to another for more recent kits, it feels like to me.
