Academy 1/25 Jagdpanther

    Hi All,

Here's my build of Academy's Jagdpanther, quite decent value at £17! First impressions is that it's a pretty simple kit to make, pretty much a 'shake & bake '.

Further inspection reveals it's a re-box of Tamiya's 70's kit, complete with the mouldings in the hull for adding a motor. The kit comes with working torsion bar suspension.

The drive sprocket housing is attached to the hull by 2 small screws! You can see the gearing inside the housing that's clearly a holdover from the days of motorization.

The rear equipment boxes have some small sinkholes, but some filler will sort them out.

    More to follow!

    Thanks for looking

    Patrick

This is going to be excellent if that King Tiger of yours is anything to go by.

p.s. I have lots of wartime photo refs so give a shout if you need any inspiration

I would of filled those screw holes and glued it on, Either that or its going to need a big dollop of mud!

Ian, I did consider filling the holes but then I couldn't be bothered! Mud hides a multitude of sins!

Kieran, Ray, Alex, many thanks & hopefully it'll turn out ok. It's really the scale that time forgot as I'm having trouble finding any crew figures so if anyone knows of any 1/25 or 1/24 German tankers, let me know!

            Filled the sinkholes with Tippex!

Made a start on the upper hull.

            Thanks for looking

After a minor disaster with my Pershing, it's been retired to the back of the class in disgrace, so it's onward with my new star pupil!

After finishing the lower & upper hulls, the primer went on. I want to experiment with the use of colour in this one, so for the lower hull I've used Tamiya Flat Earth mixed with a little Red Brown. The idea here is to increase the area that is normally in shadow & build on that. Though if I use the supplied Shurtzen, this area won't be visible! A thin over spray of Dark Yellow will lighten this section & pick out the detail (hopefully!).

Just for a change, I thought I'd try some pre-shading. This is the first time I've even held an AB in over a year - and it takes some time getting used to it again!

                A few more....

That's it for now until the Dunkelgelb goes on tomorrow!

                Thanks for looking

A small update, got the upper hull painted in dark yellow. It's a bit blotchy at the moment, down to both my rather rusty use of the airbrush & I think, some clogging. However, that will be sorted later in the build!

And some pics of the exhaust. I had to drill them out a little, so after that I painted the pipes with a couple of coats of Humbrol #113, then masked them for spraying with the hull colour. I'll return to these later for finishing with oils & bicarbonate of soda
