So woke the other half with a cuppa took the mutt out for our morning hobble got home and waved the other half goodbye wishing her a good day at work I know but a little creeping goes a long way. Free for the day made a start not expecting any favours from the kit got the three piece hull tub up and running none of your one piece slide moulding here ,now time to confess its quite obvious I've a cement fetish no paticuler favorite i like em all
Now thoes that know me a bit better will know that I think OOB is good so imagine my horror when I found that to build the box picture you have to remove the compartment lid with the two holes(I presume for the twin turret version)and replace with the appropriate one WHAT should have checked the instructions first then found something else to build.
Bugger ive started so hacked the offending middle off and sawed along each piece at a splay as close as possible then sanded and scraped the last little bit to the top edge if tha makes sense as the front and back edges on the new part were sloped/bevelled. Not I thought strong enough to rebuild making it a three piece unit risked building the front and back
With all didgets crossed could only hope
What bloody well grew there ..........DaveComment

So, a kit sold as a variant that you actually have to go old-school cutting to convert? And they didn't include an extra rear hull piece to make it more straightforward?
Blimey
This gets more interesting as we go on!Comment

Weird … Why didn’t they simply mould a replacement for all of part 19? Well, probably the answer is “cost”, but still …Comment

Sounds like another one of those kits, if not brands, to put on the list of “don’t buy if you only have experience with Tamiya so far”Comment

Yes, but how do you improve your skill set if you only ever go for shake and bake kits? Not saying this should be anyone’s first kit, but I’m sure it’s OK once you’ve cracked a few from the big T.Comment
-
Come on tim when have you ever seen me shake and bake ,I like OOBing but never seem to get any luck could be because I mostly build what most consider to be poor quality kits(no such thing as a bad kit just some are better than others)the top price stuff is im sure excellent and for the price it should be I do wonder if the more recent recruits to the hobby see S+B as standard ,makes me giggle when they gasp in horror at a little bit of flash ,seam lines knock out marks heaven forbid a sink marks ,the few of us left remember when that was just part and parcel of it all ,perhaps we have to accept times change why shouldn't the new set of modelers just want to build and go look at all the finishing products now even painting and weathering has moved to being S+B. Every one to their own live and let live. DaveComment

Well have just spent ages going over and over the sprues looking for the totally non existent bits that go in here so you can fit the rear return wheel/thingy
Not i might add the first piece not to be found in the box or not mentioned in the instructions ,so have studied the line/colouring drawings it'll just get a hole drilled in what I consider the appropriate place i think the axel/rod thingy should be plenty long enough to keep it in line with the road wheel/bogey bits
Only concern being that if the useless rubber tracks come up short it might not be strong enough ,any way back to the bench to carry out this medical procedure thinking now it might pay to drill out and insert a metal rod just to be safe ,I know all this sounds like whingeing but deep down I do enjoy it nothing like slapping your self on the back. This is making my head hurt and eyes water!
Looking at the plan sheets, in looks like the rear idler should have a bit that fits over the axle pin, to make the wheel position adjustable!? What the what?
Time to ggogly translate the specific instruction?Comment
-
Hold the press ,gave it all one last look at the sprues then amongst my mess saw one I thought was empty and there hidden in the corner barley visible i found them the missing parts ,although to look at them you wouldn't think they were up for the job looking at the rear slot ,id also been looking for something more substantial . You do like the unusual stuff Dave! I have every confidence you’ll get this one shipshape and Bristol fashion in no timeComment

Yep. So it DOES appear that the idler position is adjustable
For no good reason
Oh yeah . Rubber tracks
