I have been beavering away slowly. Not much to show but I have managed to make two new front springs as again the kit ones were awful and needed so much clean up it was in all honesty easier just to make new ones.

Each spring is made from 32 bits.

I never have either … I did buy their T-64 and BMP-3 kits, and still have them unbuilt in the stash because of the amount of work needed to bring them up to scratch. The fact that the prices on them are in guilders only, without the same price in euros as well, says enough about how long I’ve had them

As for the work needed, to give one example: in his Military Modelling article on the BMP-3 some 25 years ago, in addition to adding and correcting detail all over the model, Steve Zagola scratchbuilt the entire track from plastic sheet, strip, etc.

To be honest, they seem like they would be ideal for your kind of detailling

Work has started on the rear of the chassis. When finished not much if any will be seen, but I couldn't just fit what was there so I started giving it a little tweak.

The front suspension mount was just a box moulded to the chassis rail.

This was removed and the offending hole filled with an offcut of plastic and filler. Next a new mount was fabricated. I rolled a piece of brass around a drill to form the cup which was then soldered to the brass back plate. This was done for strength, next the rest of the "casting" was added from offcuts off evergreen. Finally rivet and bolt detail was added.
