Update,
A bit more work done last night....
The new rear was attached with c/a...
And just the join to clean up with a bit of filler...
Then it was onto the front and the drivers hatch plate, and the turret plate...
Then it was time to start adding the 'Pagoda' engine covers... The centre attaching bar is stepped lower at the front as the engine covers are at a different height...
They cannot be mixed up as they are clearly labelled 'F' for front and 'R' for rear, and the numbers are for Left to Right in assembly. But I started with #1 and #5 so that I could c/a the hinge bar into place correctly...
And this is what you should have, the odd shades are just the resin colour.
I have decided to use the metal barrel and will be working on that today...
Cheers

Update,
I decided on the metal barrel, mainly because the resin one did not want to remain straight....
So the choice of putty to use. I have used Tamiya and MagicSculp before and with good results, but thoght I would use the Geomfix (original A&B) and see how that works out....
First the barrel was rough sanded to give the putty something to grip. It was then marked out with masking tape....
The putty mixed up well and with very little stickiness that you get with some of the other brands....
Then I used one of the sprue bags, some talcum powder sprinkled inside and a 6inch rolling pin to roll out the putty which I had split into three lumps....
And there we are, three nice thin sheets about half a mm thick, and not all will be used...
So - taking one sheet of putty I measured out the width and approximate length, (look away now) I then licked around the bare part of the barrel to wet it, why lick it? because I had forgotten to get some water and it seemed the right thing to do at the time, and in fact it worked as I did not have gallons of water all over the work bench and myself to clean up after.... So the middle went on first and then the two outer sections.....
Then using the shaping tools I added the shapes of material to the surface and finished off the texture by dabbing the end of a tooth brush bristles around the still soft putty. Now all that needs to be added is the securing straps and fasteners....
All of the wheels are now assembled and ready for a final clean up. I have decided not to use the interim idler wheel but use the later ones that look like the Chieftain ones but a larger in size (when I find them).....
And that is it for now - off now to do some turret texturing...
Cheers

Update,
OK, let's get the elephant out of the room first....
Elephant....
Correct way to add the thermal blanket.... I modelled the open part of the thermal blanket as it would appear at the top of the barrel - wrong, when in fact it should have been at the bottom of the barrel - that has now been corrected....
Added the lifting handles for the engine covers and the 'rubber' barrel stops around the outside of the engine covers....
Now for these little burgers - those of you that have built the AFV Club Centurion in whatever guise it comes will have had the problem of the half moon pin not fitting into the slot, and finished up with a return roller - rolling across the bench like a drunk dog after a night out.... So here is my method....
First I cut of the pin so that I have a flat surface... The half roller is then placed into my tube roller....
Making sure that I have the correct halves to start with... So here is my half roller ready to accept the other half....
A dab of liquid cement and a gentle push with the metal roller that fits in the slot will line everything up - now leave to set, and may your rollers never be wonky again....
Other work carried out today was to fill a patch on the turret rear where the wire reel fits, hence no texture added, the left front bin added and filled where required... And on the hull the fittings at the rear and the rest of the final drive and track tensioner....
And that is it for today..
Cheers
