Nice work so far Ian, and another one for the Malta rubble scheme.

Remember seeing the Maltese cammo on a Valentine...looked great so I’m rooting for that too:smiling4:

Hi Ian
We don't see that many resin kits so this is interesting. Quite a few problems which shouldn't be the case for the likes of SKF Models. I am sure you will sort it. Already looking good. Is there a PE fret included?

There is Jim. Most of it will call for the use of a microscope to fit. LOL The mudguards and bumper are the larger parts, then there are loads of tiny latches for the locker doors....

Well I got the body cobbled together yesterday. The floor pan being snapped in two making it more of a challenge than it needed to be. Not perfect, but it will do.
I have only been able to find one tiny, very grainy photo of a C8 on Malta so I know they where there, as to the mark number and the actual colours and pattern.
It has been written that things that where Green on arrival had the 'stone block' painted on, those that where 'sand' probably Portland colour had the green or sometimes brown 'morter' painted on. All was done by hand and pretty much free design, after guidelines. Some things more freely interpreted than others. This lead to a great variety in the pattern. Every thing from neat and tint block work to squares piled up in rows up and down as well as across. Fortunately the C8 I have seen was more the expected rubble patter.
I have done the Vallentin and it is lurking on here somewhere in the armour section.

Found a larger example of the photo.

The roof vents tell that it had a solid roof and not the canvas one so it looks like I have the right mk. :-)
If anyone can shine a light on a unit number...

The result of one hour at the bench:

I got the steering arms sorted and the transmission in (after a bit of faffing about). The angle from the front diff to the drive splitter is impossibly steep. Oh well its there.

And the front bumper. They want four rivet heads placed on the marks at less than 1 mm in diametre I'm not even going to try.

I have also softened the mudguards ready to roll them, but that will be for another day...

Excellent work so far Ian, Lord knows resin kits can be a pain, but quality above quantity is what us old timers adhere to, after all what is left to prove anymore?
Am watching this one, and wishing I paid so much attention to all the little fiddly stuff....carry on:thumb2:

Ian,
Nice work you are slowly licking this in to shape.

Beating into shape would be a better choice of words. Lol.

Ian,
Just caught up to your build, considering the problems you are doing a fantastic job. I agree with you about the manufacturers comments, I am halfway through a big build and a bigger retail price, and the standard of some of the parts really needs to be questioned.
But keep pushing on, it will work out in the end.
Cheers, Mike.

Well I hope that no one is holding their breath waiting for this to continue.
Having had the front bumper and all the lights fall off (for about the N th time) and refitted. I actually got to throw some primer at it. And most of the brass work fell off again, also two of the windows, (that are glued inside the cab) are now rattling around in the cab. Shelf of doom? More like target practise.

Time to start saving up for a new one. In plastic.

To Be honest Si, this is one of the few kits I have hated from the start. When I bought it, it was the only 1/35 Morris quad on the market. Now there are three to chose from in plastic.
Starting it was on of those 'oh well I have it so I might as well.' Live and learn eh?

Ian,
Sorry to hear this has been a trial. After all the effort you put in, you may be right to call it a day.
