          No longer a "sideproject"

          Hello all
as described Here the BMP diorama has been split into two and this one will receive primarily attention until end of September as I will be entering it into two competitions.
After that it's back to the BMP and the larger building.

Removing the larger building required a new lay out and story:

A Zu - crew (affiliation left to the viewer) has been caught out in the open in the outskirts of Aleppo by sniper fire. which has claimed one casualty. One is "spraying and praying" in the general direction of the sniper trying to offer covering fire for mates (an RPG - team) crossing the very exposed street, to join him to take cover behind a walled garden..
Shortened the base, added new sidewalk and wall. behind the wall there's a once beautiful paved garden, now sad and neglected as the its owner has fled the area during the fighting
The smaller size of the technical allows for reentry of the mortar to the scene.

Plenty of movement to capture the moment. Sounds a great idea .

                Cheers mates :-)

You will have to without the chaps running a shooting but here are some super current pics from today: I have been adding rubble , the mortar is fixed, as is the sniper casualty some gear and details around the mortar position is fixed - need more spent shell casings ammo boxes maybe cardboard boxes like the one in the gutter. Much more rubble and debris to be added here and there.
The neglected garden is done - i really like this element.
                Some thoughts on the story:

Yes the chaps have been caught out in the open - but why?

The road past the house could be blocked - I plan to add a smaller type jersey barrier in the bottom of the dio near the edge - works well as a filler but would also illustrate a dead - end . This could necessitate getting out of the truck and maybe checking the map - the could be illustrated by a map spread on the hood of the car some water bottles standing on the hood - " break time" chaps running could have been surveying the terrain and the chap spraying and praying could have been studying the map when the sniper attacked, picking out a obvious target - the hapless guy manning the ZU -23 he has slid down from his seat and fallen to the ground.
The story is predicated on the chaps believing that the ares is relatively safe - the tremendous firepower of the ZU - 23 notwithstanding , this is still a soft skinned vehicle, not a frontline one, or they could just be taking a calculated risk by standing still...

I have annotated some of the pics

Stunning modelling! I like the road sign, but I think it needs to be bent a bit.

Do they have that sign in Syria? I don’t know, but this particular type is one of those Vienna Convention signs that are not used in all signatory countries.

Unfortunately, a quick search has so far failed to turn up a good list of Syrian traffic signs, probably because my Arabic is non-existent.

@Jakko - good point - I nicked this sign from an Iraqi set assuming similar signage in Syria. I will go digging to check

With shows cancelled across the board due to the pandemic there are no deadlines looming build has slowed to a glacial pace.

Some further progress on filling the empty area near the edge - idea being that the Jersey barrier and oildrums along with some barbed wire are part of a check-point - it might also tie in with the storyline as part of the explanation why the crew has been caught out in the open - but more on that in a later post.

The remnants of a check-point - the idea was to make the road unusable to cars and control pedestrian traffic so i needed to close the hole on the left hand side allowing only traffic on the right hand side so, enter the barbed wire
