No real problems, the front steering link rods were a tiny bit too short and one of the shocks had the fixing pin on the wrong side . I also had to slightly modify the handrail on the tank to get it to look right but those things are not really what you would call problems, just little annoyances that are easily fixed.

I got all the big bits painted last night and I think it looks OK, obviously there are some more things to do like mudflaps, wheels, steps etc.

As it stands nothing is glued on as I just put it together to see what it looked like, now all I have to do is add the black and brown camo, that should be fun, but it may be easier if I do it while I can still break it down into handy size lumps, we shall see.

        Andy,
Sorry late to the party. That is a great build very neat and logical. It is an interesting chassis with so many variants. The tanker being one of my favourites.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother, spent about 2 hours trying to mask the camo on this model and all I have succeeded in doing is making marks on the paintwork. As the european camo is above my limited skill the only option left is to paint it the desert colour, but that would mean masking the windows and as I use very little glue on them I know what would happen there, one or more of them would fall in. Once again I am thinking of fitting it in the bin, off now for a long think about things.......................I may be some time.

Like Gary suggests, these also rode around in plain forest green. If you want to do the camouflage, don’t mask it but draw it on the model using a pencil, marking the blobs with a letter for the colour (except the green, of course ). Then just fill in the blobs with the appropriate colour; if you don’t trust your airbrushing skills in this, you can also brush-paint it, because the edges of this camouflage scheme are technically feathered but pretty close to hard edges in many cases.

If you want to get the camo absolutely correct, try pages 164 and 165 of this PDF

The above is the way they do it 1:1, only in chalk instead of pencil. PaulE

Andy. I’m not very talented when it comes to camo either and I have seen them on flat Railroad cars being transported in just a plain olive drab I always thought the flammable decals look neat on the dark olive I would just leave it a solid color and called a day Before you crash and burn. It looks good And your progress is very well also

Agree with Lee, just leave it that colour, it's only Steve that go's mad for camo.:smiling2:

I have seen that picture when I was looking for images of the real thing but I thought it looked a bit plain.

Thank you all for the encouragement, means a lot to me. After having a sulk for a while I decided that twenty odd quids worth of plastic was not going to beat me so I started masking again. I figured I would do a bit at at a time so I have only done the one side of the tank so far. Masking was a mix of thin rolled Blu Tac and masking tape, there are some obvious marks on the plastic but the brown will cover some and the rest will be called weathering.

If the rest turns out no worse then I may even be happy with the result.

Sounds like it has a old 2 stroke Detroit Diesel I’ve drove many of them.

The PDF I linked to explains exactly that

I find it works very well for models too, using a mechanical pencil.

A later method, BTW, is to use overhead projectors and transparencies with the camouflage pattern. In the factory some vehicles are painted using rubber mats as stencils, and I’ve also seen video of a German factory building or overhauling trucks which used bent-steel templates that were placed on the vehicle.
