    Soviet zil 157k

The earlier version of my previous zil.
This ones from trumpeter, 361 parts, comes with rope for the winch and chains for the rear tailboard ,has the old fashioned piano hinged bonnet allowing one or both sides open exposing the engine, going to try my luck at adding extra details to the engine, brought this second hand from eBay for a bargain 16 quid! Only thing is I seem to be missing one outer door handle,my find it or I think it's a problem I can overcome easy enough. Made a start on the engine. Click image for larger version

OK so I wanted to try some engine detail on this so here's my first ever bit of scratch!! Have started to make a distributor, had to put seven holes into the top of a 3mm diameter rod! I would either break drill bits or they would move about on the surface so i held a broken drill bit in pliers and heated it up with a lighter and melted the holes in, seemed to work OK so I now have 7 leads glued in,6 for plugs and 1 for the coil, the wire is 0.3 mm.Click image for larger version

A little bit of cleaning up and I'll tidy the wires up when I cut them down to length , on the engine I've drilled out the plugs and inserted some 0.8 plastic casing into the holes to look like the plug caps on the leads, trial fit in the pic.Click image for larger version

Don't think I could manage this in 1/87 scale.....the wires would be thinner than a human hair. Looks like you are off to a good start on this Mark......I can keep an eye on JR for you, he really gets excited when you say things like 4BO or Fire, Petrol etc. In the mean time will there be refreshments? I prefer Tetley's but Yorkshire will do. Rick H. :thumb2:

                Hi Mark
Nice choice of kit and you're off to a fine start with the scratching engine detail.

Maybe I'll paint it blue and turn it into a builders truck :tongue-out3: :smiling5:

                            Mark,
great start! I realise that you may be able to build all the Soviet/Russian 3 axle trucks, post war - Trumpeter for the ZiL-157 & Ural-375, ICM/Revell for the ZiL-131, and Zvezda for the KAMAZ - that'd be quite a line up!

Thanks Dave, done the icm 131 and a hobbyboss kraz tank transporter, think theres another zil model available. My Russian shelf will probably grow a bit bigger yet.
