    Dice

    Morning all.

Not really a model per se, but within the category of model engineering.

I've had a small lathe for a few years now and earlier this year added a small milling machine. My end plan is to be able to machine small engines and steam engines, but as of right now I am still learning and practising. To that end I decided to make some dice, mainly as an exercise in keeping to tolerances and accurately placing features.

    The sprues :tears-of-joy:

The state of my workshop at the end (note the amount of swarf)

    The end results

The smaller brass die is 17mm, the larger steel die is 36mm and weighs 291 grams.

Nice work Bob. Wouldn’t use it to play monopoly on the dining room table though, it’ll dent it to death….

My late Uncle Albert used to buld steam engines and Guage 1 steam engines, and I can remember as a boy standing there and watching the magic happen. And I can still remember the smell of the oil and meths used.... He once gave me a small engine to take home and I had hours of fun running it - even in the middle of the night much to Dad's annoyance.....

Great work. Reminds me of my apprenticeship when we had to file dice like that... I can't recommend it! :tongue-out3:

Nice dice Bob. Often looked at and lusted after a small lathe and mill. Never did anything about it though.

I also had an uncle that built live steam. He had a huge (well I was only 10) traction engine that he used to pull a passenger wagon around club events on.
He also had some fantastic steam locomotives. One he was alway keen to point out "it's almost six foot long"

                            Morning all,

My son requested I make him a die so i got back into the workshop. I decided to try something different so got some epoxy resin and luminous powder.
