POS (Paint on Sprue), well do you? or don't you?

Personally I do, but not everything, but especially wheels and tyres, so much easier to do them on the sprue, then just touch up any areas that are missing paint when taken off the sprue. Also useful for small parts, eg: 1:76 and 1:72 scale.

I tend to not paint larger items on the sprue, as they can easily be held, secured off the sprue.
Also I do tend to do my sub assemblies before painting,

But I know not everyone does POS......so just a little poll for you all....

It also depends on what genre im building......when im doing bikes or cars i find i can do more on the sprue

It depends on how thick the attachments are to the sprue. If there is going to be a lot of sanding and clean up to the part then I'll paint it off the sprue after all that is done. Seamlines and mold misalignment would definitely decide the painting off sprue as a new part may need to be scratched.

I don't paint anything on sprues. Once everything is clipped off and cleaned up, parts are mounted in a variety of ways for painting.

Me too. Invariably parts will require clean up which is difficult to achieve on a sprue tree. I like to paint once with an airbrush.

Plus one on the Bobcat method. Too many sprue and mould lines to remove to do this. Usually I build sub assemblies and paint those before the final build.

I'm the same as Bob and Tim. I removed a part from the sprue, clean it up, do a dry fit, and then fit it. I try to build as much as possible before painting. Sometimes you have to build up sub sections and paint them separately but you do risk glue marks and paint touch ups are often awkward.

There was a time when I painted everything on the runners. However, that involved too much repainting after being removed from the runners. Now, like a lot of others, I remove everything and assemble as much as possible before painting.

Mostly I don’t but occasionally I do ?.

I predominantly use an airbrush for painting so like a few of the other guys do I tend to remove parts and clean them up before painting.
For smaller pieces I use crocodile clips attached to cocktail stick to hold them or tape the parts to ice lolly sticks before painting.

The figures I paint are usually made from just a handful of parts which are not attached to a sprue, so I don't have the option of POS. More generally I much prefer to assemble a figure entirely before painting so I can see how the light falls on different areas - so little or no sub-assembly painting for me, either.
