From getting back into the hobby not that long ago, I started with a very basic work desk, (the desk was previously used when I occasionally did work from home, on a work laptop and also used as my "study" when using my own laptop), so the desk space was shared with the laptop, screen, keyboard, mouse mat, etc.
So very limited space to use.
To convert the space into a dedicated model making area, I obtained a basic paint stand (just small shelf unit) and a more specific model making "Bucasso" paint/tool stand was also obtained.
But the lighting was poor, just the overhead ceiling light, with my back to it the work area was constantly in shadow! so a dedicated task light was also bought, now I can see what I'm doing.
And so the model making can begin....

After buying more "stuff" however, eg: paints, varnishes, adhesives, kits, brushes, tools, etc.... I did not have enough space, so I then decided to move the laptop off the desk, (as I am now retired, so no need to work from home anymore), and I could relocate my own laptop, screen, keyboard, mouse, etc elsewhere. And I needed a magnifying light, for those small fiddly bits, so another light was obtained, also to be used as additional task lighting.
So more space was made available for model making.... and it was better lit.....all good.... for now....

So now I had the full width of the desk to use, I could spread out!
But.... I quickly realised I still did not have enough storage, as more "stuff" was bought, so another paint stand, and base (HobbyZone) were obtained, to try to clear the actual desk space of clutter and bits and bobs....

But, erm, no! As time went on and as I bought yet more (and more) gear, the storage just got used up and started to impinge on the desk space (again), so the cry went out... "More Storage Please!"
Did not really have more desk space to use, but I could go up. So more (Hobbyzone) units were obtained, three more base units to raise stuff upwards, and I now went round the corner of the desk. A HZ corner unit base and corner paint stand were also added.

That's it, surely that's enough storage now, right?
Well, no, actually its not. With every kit came new paints, some oils, new thinners, new files, new sanders, new tools, more and more stuff!
I've been down this path before, [Sigh!] with tools, lots of tools, (as an ex Plumber and Surveyor), buying up everything to do with a particular interest or hobby, with motorbike gear, with cycling gear, with fishing gear, with squash gear, with golf gear, with airgun gear, etc, etc.
Will I never learn! Its the OCD part of me, I have to get all the bits. I am the very definition of "All the gear and no idea", Lol....
But I'm pretty much there now with the model making gear. Just a couple of last items, one last HZ paint stand, and another HZ corner base to raise that bit up, and a nice HZ sprue stand. Now pretty much everything can fit in all the storage. The actual desk/working area is pretty much clear, with plenty of room to work. And lastly, I added another small LED flexible task light, so a light to each side and one from above, so even better lighting!
So thats it, all done, set-up, everything in its place, and I still have a few "spare" slots, and cubbyholes for a few more bits, which I will undoubtedly buy at some point. What can I say? I just like a nice clear and clean work area!
