Cockpit open or closed

    Hi chaps

I'm starting the 1/32 build on the wildcat ( Revell ) this week and got some good ideas for the radial engine, lead piping etc to enhance, masks and correct wheels ( extra )

Now the canopy is a glasshouse similar to that of the hurricane but it's a tight cockpit so although there will be some cockpit visible is it best to have cockpit open or closed. I've read the wing fold is not great so may have wings deployed.

Think I'll do a build pic on this.

    Advice as always welcome

    Cheers

Found a couple of good ref pics to use and think your right Ian as in such a large scale it would be wasted the derail

( now got to get a decent level of painting the interior when it comes )

      Thanks for the comment

If you have a pilot open. If you do not have a pilot also open.

Think aircraft unless they have a lot happening around them look better

with the cockpit open as it gives an interest to an otherwise bare fuselage and wings.

If you build a Swordfish definitely open.

I'd say whatever takes your fancy!

An open canopy can spoil the lines of some aircraft, Hurricane being a case in point.

          Cheers

I suppose it depends on the context that your model is set. On a flight line ready to crew in or scramble then open is a sensible option. If it is parked up with blanks fitted then canopy closed is more appropriate, generally speaking when an aircraft is not about to be flown or moved then button her up, but if you've spent a lot of time, effort and maybe money on jazzing up the cockpit then show it off.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

I'd go for open if you've got some cockpit detail and belts.

Think the only swordfish that had an enclosed cockpit was the Fairy Albacore which was the Swordfish replacement but didn't quite prove as good as the swordfish

However still open cockpits as you say Laurie look better

I like the outside the box thinking there as I never thought of it that way.

Yes Robert the Swordfish had a very open cockpit. Three really as they each had their own.

Still they were lucky they had "Biggles" goggles "Algy" helmet and "Ginger" moustaches to keep them "comfortable" yikes I think not.
