    Gaining access to a cemented part.

    Hi Gents (and ladies?)

    I'm currently halfway through a Stuka, whilst completing the cockpit I noticed the rear gunner had a nice line of ammo magazines to his left on a kind of stack.

    The contact point for cementing each mag was minimal to say the least!!

    Anyway, being a newbie I put it into place and eventually cemented on the canopy.

    A day or so later I heard the inevitable rattle and saw one of the mags had come loose and fallen off.

    I could leave it but I know it's there and it's bugging me!!!

    So, is it worth removing the canopy if possible, and if so, best method?

    Or should I just accept defeat gracefully?

      Is it visible because I would never attempted to remove canopy unless it only just been glued and can be removed easily if it were me I would accept defeat gracefully.

          What did you use to fix the canopy? If it was some kind of PVA, a little water round the joint should loosen it enough to remove the canopy with no damage. There are also superglue debonders available but I'm not sure about how good they are - I did try one some years ago and had very little success. If you used plastic cement, the canopy and fuselage would have melted together so you'd have to physically cut them apart with a huge potential for damage - probably be best just to listen to the rattle!

              Thanks guys.... It's plastic cement and I would never before have attempted to seperate, wasnt sure if there was some new product on the market!

              I'll just assume the gunner dropped it and it's part of the finished model ...

                  glue the model to a base and make a diorama - that'll stop anybody picking it up!

                      I like your style...I could then bolt the diorama to a shelf or similar!

                          I remember going to a pub ( Derbyshire I think ), where they had coins superglued to the bar counter. The locals got hours of amusement watching visitors/tourists breaking fingernails trying to pick them up!

                              I think I once heard a similar story about welding a nail to a coin and ramming it into a seam between slabs in the pavement in a busy place.
