What's on the Bench? 2021

I'm doing the bases for a unit of Cave Dweller Savages.
These have been painted black, dressed with three grades of grit and some GW Stirland Mud (texture paint). Then I've painted everything white - apart from the figure recesses and base sides. Here's partway through painting in the white.
After that I add some green, brown and black using diluted Vallejo Game Inks. It looks a right mess.
But then, one of those lovely, transformational steps. I painted in all the flat or nearly flat surfaces in brown.. It took just a couple of hours, but afterwards the bases were transformed. Suddenly the rocks just start to look a bit more real. The ink covered up by the brown makes the ink left behind look like stone, rather than the nasty mess it did just a couple of hours earlier.
I love the switch that models make, when they first flip from being just a bunch of plastic and glue (and grit, in this instance) to starting to look 'real'. It can be early on in a build, or right near the end. Some models do it again and again as the build progresses. And I get a real buzz wwhen it happens.Comment

I've been rather absent from the forum since August due to the rather relentless nature of my new job, with very little time available for hobbies. But there has actually been something on my bench for all that time which I could have shared ,and it's only just occurred to me to do so.
I have been working on a private commission for a local architect during my limited spare time. It's a 1-50 model of a house he has designed and it will go on display in his shop window on our High Street. It is entirely 3D printed in PLA filament on my Ultimaker S5 and it will eventually have lights inside. It will not be painted but remain in the monotone grey, which is what architects like....
As you will see, I haven't tried to print it in one piece, I have made a kit of parts to enable better definition depending on the build orientation required, and to minimise the need for support structures on overhangs.
Hopefully it will be finished in the next couple of weeks and I can start something of my own, I'm really missing it now.
Hope you find it interesting.
cheers

While the railway diorama has completely taken over the top floor of the house...there was just enough space on the coffee table to throw this together. Considering I'm usually a complete Scrooge until a couple of days before, I'm quite proud of myself.

Its been awhile, but this is where I am with the VK4502 (p)
I have have tried an oil dot render a'la Rinaldi, with very little success.
I shall have to watch more of his 40+ You Tube films to get a better idea, and not be so rushed too!
He is where I am so far
Still on target to just finish for 311221 then get a base ready for the final finish
Hopefully done in the next 19 days!

Not unsuccessful Steve, you have generated a nice variation in the base colour there, especially on the glacis and deck.Comment
