    Churchill AVRE

    Hello All,
I have decided for me next build to return to some armour. The AFV Club Churchill Mklll AVRE caught me eye. It comes with vinyl tracks which in all honesty don't look that good as far as I can see from the pictures on line. AS you all know I am not a slave to accuracy but I would like to fit the correct tracks. So using the font of knowledge that this site is, can anyone please tell me the correct pattern track and a suitable supplier.

    Cheers
    Scottie

The AFV Club kits do come with the correct track. The main problem with the soft plastic tracks is that Churchill track links had fairly large pitch and so it’s obvious when using these soft tracks that the links bend around the wheels.

Easiest solution is to buy either of the AFV Club plastic single-link track sets:
AFV Club detail set in scale 1:35, AF35156 is a NEW tool | Contents, Previews, Reviews, History + Marketplace | A22 Churchill | EAN: 4716965351564

AFV Club detail set in scale 1:35, AF35183 is a NEW tool released in 2010 | Contents, Previews, Reviews, History + Marketplace | A22 Churchill | EAN: 4716965351830

The former is usually known as manganese track, the other as heavy cast steel or BTS 3 to modellers and enthousiasts. Both were used on Mk. III and IV Churchills, so which one you need depends on what you want to model.

Dont worry about the tracks Scottie. What about all those wheels!! The main reason I havnt done one yet. I wish you all the best with the project and look forward to seeing it started. Happy modelling my friend

Those wheels are actually pretty straightforward, though assembling them on the AFV Club kits is a little tricky unless you pay attention. I described the method I settled on in my thread about building the Mk. IV AVRE some years ago.

A great advantage is also that they’re all-steel, so no need to paint rubber tyres on 22 pairs of small wheels
