Some of the pictures I've seen show these as very grubby and discoloured, so I made a start on that with a sepia panel line wash. I then thinned the same colour and sponged it randomly, blending with a dry brush here & there.

I then put the decals on and sealed it all in with a satin varnish, ready for more weathering

I still need to face the elephant in the room (suspending it from the container) but I'm having fun with this bit for now.

Thanks chaps. There's more weathering to come now that the decals are on.

This is the kind of thing I'm aiming for

And I'm getting there with the scene too, having sorted the cables. A lot more work to do but I'm happy to have it all in place

Not done much recently, but I’m plodding through these guys. They seem to be taking forever, which, combined with a lack of mojo, is turning them into a bit of a slog.
Neddies done, troops done, shields to finish and affix, and officer/standard bearer to finish.

Not sure why that happened. I was unable to post the picture using the camera icon as I usually do?? Working now though….

Nice paintwork Tim, does take a while when you're working on 10 figures but worth in the end ?

Coming along great Tim, although two of the horses still look a bit wooden... ?

I don't use the camera icon myself, I find the paperclip one to be a bit more logical and straightforward.

Cheers Steven. Usually goes quicker than this, but I can’t seem to develop a rhythm on them.

Cheers Andy. I think their mates are tunnelling out under my wet palette

Camera icon was the one that gave issues, but is working again now using the paper clip. My fault for not posting enough probably .

Something I've always wanted to do:

Base coat is more or less there. Some touching up to do and then weathering. Like a moron, I've forgotten the PE railings I've bought, so I'll have to be really careful with the CA. Having never done a 350 vessel before, I bought something cheaper to practice on:

Well, I've got to this stage but have run into my usual creative block. The scene definitely needs more detail adding, but I don't know what, and all attempts at creating a dust cloud just look rubbish ?

Yet another one for the back burner I think, alongside my Comet & Pibber, hoping that inspiration will come one day.

I'm very happy with the Chinook itself, but I feel like the base is lacking

Great idea Andy and it's worked. I haven't a clue how you'd go about creating a dust cloud.

I understand your doubts but in 1:1 scale there would be nothing on the ground during a lift of a container. Probably the loadmaster would be controlling the load from the Chinook looking down from one of the side doors. Maybe some dead bushes, even a stray dog or two could be there running away scared or some very heavy and low lying object that the rotors downwash cannot move. If I get some more brilliant idea I'll be glad to contribute. Your effort and your results deserve the "final touch".

That looks really great Andy, loved the idea and you made it all work ? I don't think the base is lacking, you're probably to hard on yourself.
A figure blowing in the wind might give it some scale but might be too close for safety... Or somethink like a smooking flare on the ground... Some tiny bushes or rocks? I'm sure you'll figure it out! Well done, Cheers

                      Andy,
Personally I think your doing yourself and injustice I think the scene looks great the only thing that may be missing is the people on the ground but they have already withdrawn to a safe distance.

                        Thank you all.

That's probably why nothing I add looks quite right, because, as you say, the area would be pretty clear in real life too.
