    Cutting and shaping decals.

I'm about a 1/3 through the new Airfix Spitfire and I've decided to leave open the gun bays on the wings.

I haven't done this before so never concerned with decals.

However, this time I will leave them open so I'm interested to know what your technique is in applying decals surrounding open gun bays/panels etc?

Is it a case of measuring up first?

My first train of thought was to lightly attach the panels, decals as usual then cut away and remove panel, unfortunately there are parts protruding from the gun bays that prevent this.

Thanks in advance, I'm all ears!!!!

A possibility is to make a template using the decal placement part of the instruction sheet.
Make a copy of it to the right scale.
Cut out the part showing the decal you want to trim.
Modify it until it fits as you want, then use that as a template to mark and cut the decal itself.

Trace the decal onto tracing paper. Cut that until it fits where you want, then cut the decal to the same shape.

          Simple, yet effective.

          I was clearly overthinking this.

          Many thanks guys.
