Using nature's Trees how to preserve

Use shelves to display models. Trees & shrubs are vey expensive. Going to use bits of real tree & shrubs.

But how do you preserve the leaves & colours etc. for deteriorating ?

something to do with glycerine but still not sure how

hairspray works to an extent. it also helps to keep any foliage attached.
