Think with all the other problems you managed to do this well Peter. Like the blue regardless of the orange peel , if you hadn't have mentioned it I wouldn't have thought any less .

Thanks chaps! Today's problem - wheels!
They go together as a four-part 'sandwich', held together by the tyre, with no cement needed.
Two of them went together with no problems, but on the third I tried, the outer part (90) just wouldn't go into the tyre. No idea why not. There are a couple of little lumps on the inside of the tyre but I don't think they're the problem as the rubber is quite soft.
I damaged the paint trying to get it to fit, and I was going to try to fit the remaining wheel together when I noticed the paint on that one was damaged too, so I've given them both a respray. I'll try the assembly again when the new paint has had a chance to harden properly.

Thanks John, but I don't think it's just friction, there's something solid stopping it.
Ah, spotted it - now you've made me think about it, there's a small protrusion in the inner wheel that fits into a notch in the outer - but there's a ridge in the inside of the tyre that's in the way, so I can't see it when the tyre is on. I'll try to cut a piece out of the tyre. I must have just got lucky with the orientation with the first two.
Memo to self - look at the bloody parts before you try to fit them together!

Well, I found the problem with the wheel that wouldn't go together - rubber flash on the inside of the tyre. Couldn't cut it with a scalpel, had to grind it away with a Dremel on high speed. But, one step forward, two steps back - the windscreen came unstuck, (it doesn't have enough curvature) which wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't fitted the wipers. Struggling now to get the front lights to fit - tricky to see where to sand them down, as they don't have any straight edges and they fit in a space that curves in two directions. Oh well, they'll get done, eventually!

Not the best fit and finish then Peter….keep grinding away at it (literally) and you’ll get there though.Comment

OK, that's the front lights and grilles done.
I should have painted the edges of the clear covers black. They look as if they are standing proud, but they're not. I'll try to run some Clear into the joint, that might help reduce the frosted effect.
I managed to remove the windscreen and re-glue it. I taped some short pieces cut from a coffee stirrer to the ends of the screen so the tape puts pressure on the ends rather than the middle.
Now for the back end...

Well, I think I've run out of plastic bits to stick together; just a few more decals and a clearcoat, and I can join the body to the chassis. I wonder if it still fits...? Seems a long time and a lot of added parts since I tried a dry fit.
I think I've got the engine bay/cover/hatchback/tailgate assembled correctly - the instructions are really vague, and the vertical part between the engine bay and the cockpit doesn't really seem to fit anywhere. That's Revell for you!
I'll need to decant some of that Simoniz acrylic clear and put it through the airbrush. I've never tried decanting from rattle cans before, so wish me luck! I'll be interested to see if I can avoid the orange peel effect with the airbrush.
Oh, and I knocked a door mirror off while removing and refitting the windscreen, so that needs re-sticking. Then I can join the body with this:
I hope it fits!
Then perhaps I can find a kit in my stash that won't present so many 'challenges'.

Well, this kit fought to the bitter end! The decanted clearcoat went pretty well, but I'd masked off the parts I didn't want to be glossy, and when I removed the masking some of the front number plate came off as well. I tried to touch it in with some white paint, but made a mess of it.
So I removed both the registration plate decals as well as the white paint and re-registered the car with German plates. I'd have preferred a UK registration, but it's left-hand drive (are the real ones available in RHD?).
The body sort of fits the chassis:
I'll put up a 'finished' thread.
Now, what next...
