    me dad made this

i can remember me Dad was always making things, normally from plans and they normally took him years to do. This is a full size Navy 36 cap and ball percussion pistol 1857 pattern, made from the original plans in case hardened steel, it took nearly 3 years to make and a few years ago he gave it to me and its now my prised possession

Top work from your father, a talent indeed to mill the steel and get it to fit and work like the original.

                  Lovely thing to have.

Cheers guys, its never been fired and the barrel has been blocked off, he took it to a gun smith after he had finished it to get their opinion and they said it was spot on, he has also made a tug boat out of steel which is about 3 ft long and more or less everything on it works, from winches to the clock on the wheelhouse,

Now that is exceptional not only is it something you don't often see on forums but the exact replica is also fantastic. You both have fantastic taste. Did he also make the bullets for the chambers? This is exceptional workmanship indeed

Hi Rob, no there are no bullets, this would have fired a round shot that was loaded into the front of each chamber and rammed home with the ramrod that is below the barrel on a hinge, so it would have taken a while to load all 6 chambers, normally they would have carried a few loaded cylinders with them as it is easier and quicker to change the cylinders
