    Extractor fan bucket filter

    Hi guys,

Thought this might be of interest.

I have been lucky enough to have had a small area to set up a spay booth/painting area.
Unfortunately due to having to have it near a window to vent the booth and the layout of the room I was quite restricted for space.

As you can see not a lot of space to work ? (I had moved the extractor at this stage but it sat in the corner).

I had a desk given to me but the only space to put it was on the opposite side of the room well away from the window. So I have been looking for solutions and saw a few tutorials on YouTube showing how to set up a bucket filter.

    I purchased a 10litre bucket with a sealed lid.

The extraction pipe which would usually be hung out of the window needs to fit into the lid so a suitable sized hole was cut out.
You might see I have marked where it needs to go, I then drilled around the circumference to create a suitable sized hole.
A series of ventilation holes were then drilled around the edge of the lid before the extractor pipe was sealed into place with standard silicon sealant.

The pipe needs to hang about 2/3 of the way down into the bucket. A small amount of water is the poured into the bucket to sit just below the level of the extractor pipe.
The top of the bucket then needs pieces of filter gauze added to the lid, covering the previously drilled ventilation holes.

The theory is that the paint particles fall onto the water while the filter catches any that don’t ?

ID:	1241286 This is pretty much job done, I added a drop or two of scented oil to the water which creates a pleasant smell ?

So this is my new spraying area.

Much more room to work ?

Hope this helps if you are stuck in a similar situation.

    Interesting, looks a neat solution.
Have you used it yet? and does it work?
What type of gauze/filter material did you use?
I am only brush painting at the moment, but may well go down the airbrush route at some point.
Although I had an openable window in my small spare room, in the winter I would not want the window open, so this would be a good solution if its works.
Let us know how you get on with it.
    Cheers

I’ve runtye extractor without spraying as I’ve still got to move and set up the compressor.

I’m hoping to give it a go in the morning so will let you know how it performs ?

That looks a neat and cheap solution to fume extraction. Sounds as if it should work fine. Let us know how you get on with it.

      Sorry chaps ?

I know a few of you were asking how effective this is.

Unfortunately I have not had time to test it properly as I’ve been busy looking after this little fella ?

        Should work a treat

I once had to improvise for a while and put the hose into a sealed cardboard box and it worked

My theory was that the paint particles would be dry by the time they got to the end of the hose....box was just to catch them

Cute little bedpoo....going to be a handful at that age
        Per Ardua

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

        Hello Chaps,

Finally got chance to do a bit of spraying today to give this a proper test and am happy to report it worked fine ?.

I was using AK Extreme Metal paint which is quite smelly. All I could smell was the scent from the few drops of oil I added to the water so mission accomplished ?

        Geoff.
