How I Make My Palm Trees.

Hi this is how I make my palm trees hope you find it helpful.

The trunks and branches are made using copper wire ( I have use cooker wiring it has 7 strands but anything will do), the leaves are made from 1" ordinary masking tape. The trunk are wrapped in Das clay and then textured.

Lower branches are cut to 10" long.

Leaves x 7 are made from 1"x5" masking tape, mark halfway 2 1/2". Lay copper wire in the centre and double over the masking tape back onto itself, cut a palm shape and feather the edges of the leaves to finish. Paint to your own colour specifications.

Feather all the edges of the leaves .

Trunks, cut is to 11" long.Tape one end and at 3 1/2" in from the other, then carefully splaey the wires out to make the top branches, the leaves are made in the same way as the lower ones.

Feather all the edges of the leaves .

Paint all the leaves before assembly.

Bend all the leaves to shape.

I've used Das clay and moulded it around the copper wire to make the trunk then formed the palm tree shape into the trunk.

Paint the trunk and weather with oils.

I used a dish pad for the palm fronds.

Then add trees to your diorama base.

    Thank you for looking.
    Pete.

Just as ordered, the colours brightness we can put down to the camera etc, no problem. The step by step photos are what we need, and you delivered in spades. But an excellent tutorial to help not only the experienced modeller, but also the novice...... Now where's that copper wire.
              Mike.

Peter, that's a nice SBS on making desert palm trees...great for John R as he's looking to do some for his next project.

My palm trees are a similar preparation except I don't use wire for the trunks.

                  Cheers,
                  Richard

Not to worry about the camera, mine is the same. I have forgotten how to use my 'real' camera, but will need it soon.
                            Cheers, Mike.
