thanks scott, i got some off colin the other day but was not amused by the price, found a place in liverpool called perc arts and crafts that i can get some more from a lot cheaper.
Yesterday I went to the store and got split peas, a whole $0.99 for a pound. I made a little sample piece on a card and I am very impressed with the outcome. I glued them flat side down, painted them varying shades of grey, let it dry, then filled the spaces with tile grout. I will take pics tomorrow, as well as make a new thread of my diorama progress.
Thanks again for all the tips and I wish you all a very happy and pleasant weekend.
i have received the silicone moulds from hong kong and have tried using them, i am quite happy with them all though they will require some work to fit together properly. usiing plaster of paris at the moment but they break quite easily so i am searching for alternatives.
I have about 6 sheets of these 1:35 cobblestones, all I know is they are made from resin, but there not in packets so I dont know who makes them, I do however remember I got them from Ebay. The plan was to make casts from them as they have great detail.
They look pretty good. I see that Mini-Art are also soon to release a set of European cobbled street. They look good as well and have that nice fan shaped pattern often seen in the older parts of Europe.
Some cake shops sell wood effect, brick and cobbled stone impression mats. I picked up a wood and brick effect from my local cake shop in Wycombe. Was about £9 but it can work on plaster, paint etc. Measures about 3"x7"
Nit-picking pedant here... The word "cobble" comes from geology, meaning a rock roughly between 3" to 9" across rounded by being transported in a fast flowing stream or river. It is smaller than a boulder and larger than a pebble. A "set" is a manufactured square or oblong block around A6 paper size used for roads etc. In Aberdeen granite sets are common (AKA "cassies"). Try Slaters Plastikcard, they do embossed plastikcard sheets with brick, cobbles and roof tiled patterns, they come in different sizes and colours and don`t cost the earth..
