    Getting your rock on.

Ok, I got this big flat board that I want to build up into a chunk of desert rocky out crop.

I could really use a few tips on making some good rocks/outcrops. I'm thinking plaster of paris or the like, but how?

    Over to the experts....

No expert me, but as well as using polyfilla or the like, how about polystyrene? I'd use extruded styrene rather than the stuff that comes as packaging with your new tv coz it doesn't break up into those little nodules. That way the finished product won't be as heavy as if you only used plaster.

      HI Ian

I have in the past used the polystyrene sheeys built up into the rough shape of what you want, glued together using White glue/pva glue (model cement and superglue melts it!)

Then I've used cheap polyfiller to build it up into a rocky shape. Leave overnight then you can spray paint what yopu want onto it. You can also cut through it to make foundations for whatever, or even to lay electrical wires for a gas lamp diarama, although these are not common in the desert!

Good luck with it, don't forget to post some pics!

      Cheers, Saul
