    Bullets

Need help guys, trying to damage a TKS in a fire fight with a Panzer I. Need to do bullet ricochets and one kill shot though the side of the TKS, any ideas?

For the ricochets and bullet strikes, I use a hot needle (held with pliers!) and lightly press against the plastic to make indents.

For shell penetration same principle, but use something of the correct shell diameter such as a small screw driver or nail and push this right through the plastic.

I used this method on the tank in my 'Dead Elefant' album pictures if you fancy seeing the effect. No bullet strikes though!

I hope this has been of some use Jay.

I'd check T'internet for shell strikes on armour as I've found all sorts of images there. As for bullet strikes I have seen plenty of pictures and (unfortunately,as a young boy in Biafra) plenty of the real thing and modellers almost invariably over do them. A typical rifle calibre machine gun round makes a hole about the same size as the round, not like in the movies! You are trying to make a hole,in your scale, of around 7-10mm diametre. A heavy machine gun still only makes a hole about 13mm diametre. At 1/48 an 8mm hole is less than 1/5 of a millimetre across!

      Cheers

If you have a look through the gallery on this site there are a couple of shell deflections on page five to give you an idea of what they look like:
