    Diorama base

Going to build a diorama with a rusty old E Type Jag and an ageing Merc 300 SL, but what would you say is the best thing to use as a base? A square, thin block of wood? Or is there something else more suited or better for the job? Cars are 1/18th scale by the way, and as both are properly abused and knackered they are perfect for the job!

Hi gavin , id say a piece of 1/2" blockboard or maybe even 1/2"mdf would be ok , but id definitely seal it first with an oil based varnish or paint , before you start making any sort of scenery. The best thing for making a rough or figured terrain is tile adhesive (hence the sealing, otherwise the board will absorb the moisture from the adhesive and warp). Take a look at some of rons dioramas (spanner 570) he first showed me this effect , in fact i think he might have done a tutorial on it . hope this helps , cheers tony
