Saturn V build part 7
Hello again sorry for the lateness of this continuation but I have had to find and locate a drawing program learn how to use it and finally produce a scaled printout of the parts required so see the pictures below
1st off cut out cardboard strips mixed up the paint colour painted them then added vertical part of the i beam to 2 strips to form a complete capital I beam which were then glued into the rocket stage in 8 equally space sections ready for the arcs to attached to them
Next found and downloaded and installed a vector drawing program calked Isketch which is freeware and almost on par with adobes expensive offering anyway after installing had to learn how to use it to produce the internal structures of my build
So here is the resulting drawing now in word ready for printing I use words import pictures option as it is easier the size the object and print it than using the designing program
After that the images are cut out discarding the black area and then fitted as arcs into the interior of the stage
Finally the end pieces are added to finish off this part of the build next will come some more internal junction boxes etc this is price you pay for showing the rocket in its disassembled form as at either Johnson Space Centre or KSC much more to follow
Regards

Saturn V Build Part 8
Finally finished the engine section with the adding of access doors and I think they call them gimbaling arcs as well as the hold down clamps which have now been painted to match the background
Also added umbilical connections and vent outlets one thing I need to know is how many of these were on the stage I have done 4 one in each section but it may only be one required
Next up will be adding internal details to the remaining stage 1 sections along with adding details to the tank tops and bottomsComment

Saturn V Part 9
Sorry for lack of update on this build but a lot of head scratching and scratch building has been required so here goes
Next I tackled the interstage ring that separates the 1st and 2nd stages most of this is my own take on what found on the net and other research and some of it may be completely wrong but its the best I can come up with
So 1st off scratch build the main struts of which there are 8 then add the circular arcs that represent the internal rings along with the two end complete rings next the control and power boxes are constructed and added to the stage next I added some piping just to give extra detail finally 4 fuel pipes were added made from articulated sections of plastic drinking straws I’m waiting for some better quality ones to arrive and will replace these when they do
You can see how they link in the last photo of this section I also constructed another fuel tank end cap just in case I need an extra one later on
Next will be the disaster Dragon call the 2nd stage engine assembly I’m still waiting for additional items to arrive before I post the build diary on that particular section

Saturn V 1/72 Dragon Build Part 10
Hello again and welcome back to the continued saga of this build
1st off redid the interstage fuel piping as original design was garbage
Next comes the disaster Dragon calls the 2nd stage engine assembly virtually every part of this is.wrong mine may not be perfect but it’s a lot more accurate than Dragons
Right so 1st to go were the shoulder mounts on the engine mount these were sawn off and the resulting holes covered with 10thou plastic card next the heatshield was discarded and a new one constructed along with all the mounting struts made from 1mm carbon fibre rods painted silver
New engine cutouts were constructed again from plastic card next I tackled the engines themselves first giving them a basic colour before adding detail then using various plastic and copper beads obtained from ebay additional tanks were added the smaller copper coloured ones I then coloured them green using a sharpie pen this gave a metallic green sheen to these details
Finally additional piping was added to the engines using old audio signal lead cable painting silver
Next using the articulated plastic sections of drinking straws I constructed the main feed piping from the base of the engine ready to be plugged into the engine mounting as it was put together additional piping was also added at this stage as well finally in constructing this new version I had to create an additional 30mm extra length on the stage part that connects the 1st and 2nd stages together to accommodate the extra length the new engines assembly this was fun as I also had to add around 80 1mm 30mm card strips to simulate the ribs as on the original part and the last part was to paint and fit the lox / lh2 tank top see attached photos for additional visual detail
As a comparison there is how Dragon supplied the 2nd stage engine assembly and how my version differs admittedly the dragon one is unpainted but you can see why I scrapped it and built my own
More photos follow these

Saturn V 1/72 Scale Dragon build Part 11
Greetings peeps this I just a short one showing the iconic black & white paint scheme for stages 1 & 2 joined together
I worked out the pattern on the conical top by using the instructions and counting how many ribs across the pattern occupied then seeing the centre of the rectangle on the conical section aligned with the left hand edge of the lower 2nd stage stripe this gave me 16 ribs either side I then used some tape and cotton thread to form the shape which then gave me the positions for the remaining black patterns
So next will be the 3rd stage but I’m waiting for more paint before I can continue any further
Regards
Colin
