Post Apocalypse "Road Train" kitbash.

Bonkers title for a bonkers build!

It all started while trawling Google images for an interesting subject to build next, and the following game concept artwork caught my eye:

    Something completely different lol.

In order to recreate something similar I've collected together an old Deltic kit (that Tim Marlow informs me is around 60 years old :flushed: ), and a few cheap 1/72 truck kits. Along with plenty of bits from the spares box, some plastic card and profile, I'm going to let my mind wander and see what happens, using the above picture (and several other similar ones) as inspiration.

I started by roughing out the basic layout of the body, chopping and shortening the Deltic kit, with the beginnings of a raised open platform in the centre for a crane.

It was quite clear that anyone sitting in the kit seats wouldn't be able to see out of the windows, so I took the swivelling base from them and grafted on some truck seats.

As well as a decent seat the driver would also need other essentials like a steering wheel. This was again out of a truck kit, but I've added gear lever and control stalks from plastic rod, with a blob of CA on the ends. I've also added a headrest to his seat.

The floor was raised in front of the seat and pedals added.

I envisage this being a ton of work, but tons of fun, and since it's neither train nor truck I'm starting out by approaching it like an aircraft :smiling5: I'll get the office built & painted, then I can button that up and crack on with the exterior.

Plans include a large drawbar trailer/fuel bowser, if I can gather together enough suitable wheels.

That poor old Deltic prototype - the NRM will not be happy when they find that their star exhibit has been cut'n'shut by post apocalyptic marauders :smiling5:

            Count me in

This is going to be epic Andy. Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. All the best with this project mate.

I have no idea where I'm going with this so each update might be as much of a surprise to me as it is you :smiling5:

There are some really STRANGE people on this site
First we have "My Collection of Planes" and now "Flying Deltics" :flushed:
And Tim can contribute to both!!!(where DID you find this image Tim?)
I always thought of myself as eccentric, but in such company I feel quite inadequate :tired:

Glad you think I’m strange....normal is really boring.....and after all, we do stick plastic together for a hobby...That’s not all that normal.
Stick with me Neil, I’ll complete your education :tongue-out3:

I've never heard that term, but I like the search results it's bringing back!

It’s just Steampunk moved forward thirty years or so, into the Jazz age and beyond.....there are all sorts of weird offshoots in the war gaming fraternity.
