Hasegawa 1/72 Robotech/Macross Valkyrie Battroid

Hi ya all!

As you may or may not be aware, I a huge fan-boy of the Robotech/Macross anime series, especially the mecha. I have build a 1/72 Regult Assualt Pod, a 1/72 Destroid Defender and 1/48 Valkyrie fighter jet. My next build is my favourite, the 1/72 Valkyrie Battroid!

The Battroid for the uninitiated is the mech conversion of the Valkyrie jet fighter, there is an intermediate version called the Gerwalker, but that is for another day.

Here are some images of the contents of the box.




Started to put the kit together, this is going to be very modular to enable me to paint the various components and apply decals.




The assault rifle is cool as it is deployed with a sling and is extended, where as in fighter jet mode it is hung on the centre line under fuselage like a F4 Phantom gun pod.

All the sub assemblies are made and are ready for under coat.

In the meanwhile , I started my city scape which is Macross City and the office block that will be in the back ground.



These great OO scale figures and office accessories ScaleModelScenery are really neat.

I managed to paint the front of the office block, some figures and some of the office floors.




This is turning out to be great fun.

Yeah, Robotech went onto provide many familiar mech designs for the BattleTech/Mechwarrior universes, until licensing issues put a stop to that.

The Wasp is a new one to me, thanks for calling that out.

Anyway, put a bit more colour down for the office block, interior and exterior.

Yeah, Robotech went onto provide many familiar mech designs for the BattleTech/Mechwarrior universes, until licensing issues put a stop to that.

And then you got the whole weird unseen/reseen/etc. nonsense. All FASA would have needed to do was what FanPro did eventually: make up some new artwork for the old designs.

The Wasp is a new one to me, thanks for calling that out.

I managed to finish the exterior and put in the "glazing". I'm so impressed I almost want to leave the film on, but that will conceal all my efforts.

I did some roadworks and road signage, starting to take shape, now just need to weather the road and complete the Battroid.

Used Vallejo's excellent asphalt product.


A little weathering and a Battroid would not go amiss.

Hi ya all!

Its been a while, struggled to get motivated. Finally finished the office and street, now started painting the Battroid. Maximum military thrust!!

This is the completed office block.

Did some signage, the fictional engineering company that reverse engineered and developed the Valkyrie. Just to add some random Macross reference to a dull building. Did a spot of weathering and added HVAC and grime to the roof.

I'm really chuffed with the look.

Hi ya all, the colour is on, now for the decals. I tried to avoid as many of the large decals as possible. I'm happy with my efforts. Now for a coating Pledge to assist with the decals, then another coat, some wash, and the finally a coat of matt....I think and probably some last minute weathering.....

Thankfully I canabalised some decals from another kit that I don't think needs them.

Hi all we are into the final assembly!

The back and wings go together.

The cockpit is slid into the fuselage.

The back and head are fitted to the fuselage.

The arms are fitted.

The Battroid is fully assembled!

Here is the Battroid in all its glory on the base. Stand clear! Enemies are approaching!
