Starbug (Red Dwarf series) 1/35th scale

For all you Red Dwarf fans (and if you haven't watched it i suggest you have a look-see as in my opinion it's one of the best British comedy programs) ... i present (hopefully) a fairly accurate (hopefully) model of Starbug 1.

Started by cheating a little and buying some Balls

These are 10 / 12 / 15 mm which gives the correct size difference between the separate pods of the craft.

Using a wooden kebab stick to hold them in position, the three balls are glued (PVA) together.

The rear pod has the back quarter cut away and covered to accommodate the engines and thrusters

Have used a dremmel to bore out some holes that will be needed in the future for housing antennae and "a sensor" at the front.

Quick coat of paint to seal the polystyrene and card .... groovey!!

Top program, some of the later series dropped off a bit, but still a classic.

Looking good, will watch this and see how it develops.

A brilliant series, and I could be wrong here, but I think daughter No1 actually read the first book in her English class ! Cool teacher.

Yes mate, you'd be right if I hadn't been such a prat and put mm instead of cm.

It's actually 37cm (14.5 inch in our money)

                      Well spotted

Interesting, I love a scratch build, even better when it's something I know.

Make certain you include the spare red light bulb in case of red alerts. (Conversation between rimmer and kryten, for those wondering, at Orange alert,

                            rimmer- go to red alert,

                            kryten- are you sure sir,

                            r-of course I'm sure,

k- it's just that it does mean changing the bulb sir!)

Loved the early series, it started to tail off when the sfx budget increased, sadly the story decreased, then when Arnold, 'ace', Rimmer left it really lost itself I think.

A little interesting side note, in the episode where lister winds up married to the big hairy creature, does a runner and gets chased, the father of said hairy creature is Ainsley Harriet.

m1ks - The Gelf! "CHANGE OF PLAN.......LLLEGGGGIIIITTTTTTTTTT" One of the classic episodes!

Also agree about it tailing off. Anything after series VI was a bit pants. And series X is terrible!!!

But considering the limited budget they had, the early stuff is amazing!!

Anyway - how are your big balls looking Colin?
