    HMS Nelson

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and have been reading a few great stories especially about the `Ark Royal` and its battles.

I have a friend who's building the HMS Nelson but he hasn't got access to the web so he asked me if I can find any pictures etc of `her` when in 1945 she was re-fittesd out in Baltimore and he can't find any info on the new mast structure / update.

    Any ideas guys?

    Regards. John

Firstly John a very warm welcome to the Scale Models Forum.

There are a lot of very good links on the HMS Hood Website and I seem to remember some pictures of Nelson on one of them last time I looked.

            Hi JohnW,

HMS Nelson had a refit at Philadelphia Navy Yard Sept 1944 to Jan 1945.

            1. The armoured director hood was removed

            2. Pom-pom directors were removed to provide for additional 20mm Oerlikons

            3. Four quad 40mm Bofors MKII ( US Pattern) quad mountings were fittrd, two across the front of thr bridge, two abreast the boatdeck, Control from four Mk 51 directors.

4, The 20mm Oerlikons were increased to 65 mountings

            No detailed photos available
