tug barge

hi new member to group hi every one

my son has nearly finished his first boat a robbie neptun tug we have been trying to find plans for a simple barge to be towed behind the tug but so for no luck

so if any one can point us in the right direction that would great

i`m not sure about plans, maybe someone else can help there, but i am aware that MMM do sell a lighter hull (in fibreglass) with plans for about £29 ,or £59 including materials for building.

Hi and a very warm welcome to the Scale Models forum. I hope that you find us a freindly and informative bunch and if we don't have an answer to hand maybe we can point you in the right direction.

Which is pretty much the case with the barge. I would suggest that you buy a copy of Model Boats Magazine whihc has a contact in it each month for the X-plans service.

This is an outlet that organises and coordinates old model plans and makes them available again. They are extreemly helpful and knowledgeable and will copy just about any plan you can think of. They have an extensive catalogue of plans and can also obtain a lot that they haven't catalogued. They will be a bit slow as they have to copy to order but they are well worth getting in touch with.

I would also ask the question at the Model Boats Magazine forum and a very comprehensive model boat site which is Modelboatmayhem.

Feel free to share your own models and experiences when you have the time.

Plans for Barge

Hello all, a link to peruse is http://www.towboatjoe.com/plans.htm where there are many ideas to think about for whatever level you intend to build to. i really fancy the 195' AM Clyde Crane Barge but at my preferred scale of

3/8" :1' that would be about 66" long at a quick guess. One of these days....

Hi I'm new to this forum and read this just some minutes ago.

Why don't you use a big cabelchannel for the barge ? could be an idear ?

Could you give us a bit more of an idea of what you mean by a cabelchannel and how this could be used as a barge?

I am guessing that he means a square trunk for large cables for the outline of the hull, need to blank off the ends or it will ship some water.

As I wrote in my " Hello " my English is not so very good and so, of course, I'm missing several words !

In Germany we call it Kabelkanal it's from the electrical equipment and you can get it in different sizes. Close the ends and you have a barge.

I think he means cable trunking, the box stuff that you run cables through.

I'm new here myself. I am an avid Tug Tower and have built a couple of barges for single towing they measure rough 3ft by 8 inches. if you are interested in a copy of the plans I will email or snail mail some over. They are very simple to build.

Why stop at a barge?

A bit of thought is required when doing a barge, I've made a few and found that the 'lighter' or 'dumb barge' type were absolute pigs to tow. Even if fitted with a bridle they would want wander all over the place, the easiest to tow was the basic flat bottomed box, sloped up at the front.

The drilling rig was relatively easy...just two box sections as described above, joined together with plastic pipe, same for legs and some toy parts for the well head, wich comes off for storage and transport.
