German E Boat...

I prefer big scale WW2 aircraft but in getting back into the hobby after a 30 year absence in what is left of my old stash is the old Airfix 1:72 scale German E-Boat.

I am just starting the kit, mainly to practise my skills airbrushing before tackling my first proper project, the Revell 1:32 JU88.

I would, nevertheless like to do a good job on the E-Boat but I have little or no idea about the finishes on boats, weathering etc or even accurate colouring.

    Has anyone got any tips/suggestions?

    many thanks

Hi barry i have done one of these the pictures are posted in the boat section somewhere have a look and tell me what you think it might be helpful to you to see the pics. One thing i do remember the hull needed a lot of messing with to fit properlybut other than that the kit wasn't too bad, just exercise patents.

      Airfix !/72 'E'- boat ?

      First and most important !!

Carefully go through the box and pick out all the depth charge bits.

Basically, the parts indicated in step 12 of the construction plans.

Toss them into the spare parts box. They are total science fiction.

Then check out PRINZ EUGEN.com - the Kriegsmarine Online Photo Archive and look around.

And most WWII Kriegsmarine S-boats were painted in a very light grey, almost off-white color.

Thanks AGW. I will take a look. I bought this kit many, many years ago because my granddad fought against them in what (Sir) Peter Scott called the War of the Narrow Seas. He was under the command of Scott serving in his flotilla of steam gun boats based in Dover. This was very personal phase of the war for him because he was a Dovorian and his family including my dad were all in Dover throughout the war so he really was defending his own in the true sense. I would love the find a static kit of one of those SGBs, Grey Goose, or whatever, to sit alongside an E Boat... Does anyone know of any?
