Can anyone out there please help with with some pictures of water cooling a kyosho jet arrow. My daughter has rekindled my interest in my boat but she wants it on the water all the time and it getting somewhat very "HOT" Steve

Does anyone out there (UK or Europe) have a parts list for this boat as "Kyosho Europe" have said they dont as it is an American import. Cheers Steve

i `ve had a quick look about but no pics are to be found !

could you post a pic of the hull innards , and then we`ll maybe come up with something,

but here`s how it normally runs on fast electrics...

there is a water pick up aorung the prop ( normally right behind the prop)

this picks up water and it is the carried by small bore hose ( like ic car fuel pipe) to a cooling coil, this is a pipe that is twisted arond the motor various times. made of alloy or copper for good heat transfer. i have made them in the past with (car) brake pipe ( the soft stuff) and clear washer hose. so you can see the water flow.

depending how you feel up to it . you can make a coil or buy one, if you know the size of motor fitted. after the coil the water flows through another short pipe to (normally) the side of the hull and flows back to the pond. this is just a quick run thorugh,

astec are a fast electrics specialist , with a decent website, and i believe very helpful, however i have never personally used them.

Ok if I had looked proper in the first place I would have seen a gap where the rudder fits the transom for a tube. So I made a start. In at the deep end as it where and with a bit of advise all should go well. LOL

"STILL" no parts list. Can anyone help "please"

Hi,

As per Adzam's post above, I had a scour around on the net too but cannot seem to find any parts lists for this boat and that is something I normally never have trouble doing.

Ripmax used to do them all & The Manuals in PDF Format on their site but as you probably well know they no longer do Kyosho Products.

Kyosho's Official sites for Europe (France), America and Japan have got nothing for this one either although the Manuals are there for their current products.

I found plenty Pics but no parts list or manuals.

OK so it looks a bit daft on the wing of the boat but as you can see (just) it works. next stage it to drill holes for the pipes. Get this wrong and the boat might sink. Ho well drill in hand here we go.

Ok fitted but I didnt take into account the couling when soldering the pipes. AND I have found out that the water cooling jacket is toooooooo short for the motor, instant melting rubber pipe. OHHH well on to mark 2.

Not bad for a guy who likes his cars and his daughter loves his boats 'HELP'

What was wrong with the "coil spring" type wrap-around ? One inlet , one outlet, no soldering. Your outlet should point slightly upwards (at rear of boat) so that you can see the water exit from a distance. Stop when it stops and cruise slowly back to pits. Might be weed/plastic bag or something similar clogging inlet.

Hi Duncan. The reason I could not put a coil in is quite simple. The motor is held into the boat by a jacket that goes completely around the motor and i didnt fancy the idea of trying to make new straps to secure the motor. Maybe it might have been easier to do. If you look at the last pic it sort of shows it. Having spoken to some of my new boating friends this is what came of thier and my ideas. Keeping the old jacket would help shift some of the heat into the tubing too. Besides I have made version 2 of the water cooling jacket finding out to late that the other one was too short. OPPS my mistake I forgot to take into account the motor going backwards in regards to the water pickup. Hope that clears it up a little. Thanks 2 Adzam putting every thing in one place and i hope this is the way to add to the post. Post new pics soon when i finish the soldering.

At least you will get better heat transfer from the brass tubing but a possibility of a joint leaking.

All good stuff to experiment with though. I once had a speed boat with a bobs board controller which melted the plastic arms of the servo on its first outing. I quickly learned how to retreave a stopped boat!

I rigged up a coil from a scoop and glued it to the base of the board and it was fine after that. It is quite interesting to apply simple physics to practical problems like this and be rewarded with a result.

That is some complex engineering on that motor cooling !!!

I have 2 electric boats both on 540 motors but with no such cooling lol...in fact none at all. The first is a Warship which will happily run for 7 hours till the motor battery drains, the other is a speedboat, ok yes it has some aircooling but only for the speed control unit..I have a new ESC for the speedboat too so running times will increase !!!

My Boats are already on here, just look for HMS Active and Scamp.

Been a busy day soucring bits and pieces for the boat. Got most of the new water jacket done. taken a few pics, will post soon. NOW i have to alter the arm from servo to speed controller coz things getting in the way. All thanks to Kyosho not having the parts or list any more. Never mind all sent to try the engineer in us all. Wont get much done this weekend its birthday weekend so off to party with the mates / my kids & their kids / parents and loved one's, esp my partner who as it happens likes the park for sunbathing and not the pond for boating, cant win them all. pisssssst dont tell her I'm thinking of getting a new boat so my daughter can have the Arrow LOLOLOL

Well its been a weekend with a difference J . Done some to the boat when had a chance to and here are the pictures.

1- Strap for the pipes

2- Pipes in place held apart with ally tubes of the same size

3- Pipes soldered and I thought it looked like a hedgehog so here’s the pic

6- The lower mounting plate showing the holes that let the heads of the upper blots holding the jacket sink a bit lower

7- The upper plate showing the bolt heads

8- Jacket fitted in place

9- Speed controller mounting plate

10- Control gear fitted

11- All gear fitted. Don’t like the placing of the resister, getting in the way of a screwdriver

12- Now I don’t like it. To near the battery

13- Altered the angle of the outlet pipe. May take up Duncan’s idea of having the exit pipe straight out.

14- New position of the resister.

Took the arrow out for a ride on Saturday to the pond and wowwwwwww what a difference a good new battery makes. Gone from 7.2 1200/1300/1400mah to 7.2 1800mah. Looks like some of those “old” batterys are going to the local tip.

Found some trim tabs at my local model shop, who where very helpful with my ideas. I went to them first about the spare parts for the Arrow. (can I say who they are?????) Nice guys to chat to considering that they mainly deal with cars.

Well next step of the next few days is to reinforce the transom for the trim tabs. The plastic looks very thin and I don’t really want it leaking through it.

Made a 2 battery to 1 motor lead for the sheer heck of it. Don’t think I’ll try it just yet, but its there if I get brave enough.

Well enough from me for now, got to try to get started on the transom.

If anyone out there has any ideas about

1- uping the speed please,

2- where should the water cooling pick up go, at the top or bottom of the prop???????
