    My Uboat

Well this is my only venture into plastic models. Put it together a few years ago in a time of il health. Mind you I wouldnt mind the GATO in 1/72nd. I used to live close to Fall River in the USA and had access to a real one at Battleship cove.

Must admit there is an interest in submarines, not sure what it is.

Nice job Kevin. I particularly like the lighter weathering on the darker lower hull. One area of mine that I wasn't too happy with.

I have since bought a Corvette to go sailing with mine next time home so I am looking forward to seeing the two together on the pond.

      Hi

the one thing om never sure about is how much rust would streak on a Uboat. if the boat is submerged then it wont rust that much, on the surface the rust streaks would motsly wash away and in dock some one would be shot for leting the rust grow.

I tend to think nost of it would be grime rather than rust. The Gato in Fall river tended to show oil sheen rusting rather than rust streaks. If you look at painted steel that is starting to rust the paint develops a sheene beofre the rust breaks through.

But i think its all open to the mond of the builder, and with weathering I doubt there is a wrong way to do it.

I have quite a collection of U-boat books at home and the pictures they contain vary from pristine, out of the yard, shots to very battered and worn North Atlantic boats.

Anywhere in between could not be argued with!!!

I fully agree, I have seen Uboats that looked like all hell had been let loose on them (some times it most likely had) and those fresh out of the yards.

Bunkerbarge, do you know of any mail order in the Uk that are selling the Revel gato?

Probably the biggest and best would be Hanants at:

I was lucky enough to buy my Type VII at our local model shop but I know there are not many of them around nowadays.

I am sure Hannants will be able to supply one.

Thank you, just placed an order for teh 1/72nd Gato. may have to have a go at a radio set up for it, some of the boats on this site look rather interesting. Il have a try at a set of Engles tanks I think. I have a couple of small epicyclic gearboxes that should drive the pistons.

Any one kow why the engels tanks drive the rods into the boat and not the pistons along the threaded rod?
