        Firstly a warm welcome to the forum, enjoy your time here and make the most of the reources we have available.

        Very nice looking boat there, I particularly like the brasswork, especially the handrails. Do you have any internal pictures?

          the model is the robbe dusseldorf feuerloschboot ( fire boat ) it will have when it is finished 3 independent working fire monitors amongst other working operations im hoping to make the radar , anchor winches and life boat crane operational also . i will post an internal shot but there isnt much to see in there at the moment barring the motors and water pump the operations for the fire monitors has been stripped out until painting has been completed ..

            heres a couple of internal shots didnt really want to post these as the epoxy around the rudder arrangement is messy to say the least . The orange thing mounted along side the servo is the water pump to operate the fire monitors ..

              the working fire monitors will be very good. can you put them on a servo so you can move the around? is that how you plan on making the working crane and things as well?

              your going to need a lot of chanels.lol

                yes there is a servo for vertical movment and one for horizontal in total there will be about 7-8 servos and 6 motors controlling the various functions .

                    That's quite a rudder arrangement! It should certainly handle well on the water.

                    Nice looking model boat.

                      i will be using either an F14 navy or Fx18 transmitter most probably the f14 navy as it has the twin stick throttle option so i can work each drive motor separatley . It has 16 functions through 8 channels . this is a quote from a site that sells it ( i wont give a direct link as i am unsure how the forum stands with advertising )

                      F-14 NavyThe same system as the F-14, but with the refined Navy Twin-Stick unit in place of one standard stick unit. The parallel dual control system includes fine trims on each channel, making the transmitter ideal for the model boat enthusiast.

                      The expandable RC-System

                      The F-14 is a universal radio system in tray-type design of the successful and proven F-series and

                      features 5 option wells for expansion to suit individual needs. The transmitter can be expanded to 16 functions (8 channels) by adding optional switched and proportional channels, and a range of

                      optional modules can be fitted such as Multi-Switch, Multi-Prop, Dual-Rates and Mini Options to meet

                      the requirements of the more demanding user.

                      The new features of the F-14

                      * Basic transmitter can be expanded to 16 functions with 2 proportional sliders and 2 switched channels.

                      * Multi-Switch, Multi-Prop or Multi-Switch-Prop channel expansion to 5 prop + 48 multi-channels = 106 Functions

                      * No Multi-Adapter necessary

                      * Prepared for front installation of the Trainer Module 4 for teacher-pupil operation with almost all robbe-Futaba transmitters

                      * 5 option well now also suitable for Multi- Module with 8 control elements.

                      * Optional helical aerial

                          Hi,

                          I got 2/3rds the way thru my build of the Dusseldorf and had to stop due to ill health.

                          I have based mine on the early short version shown on this site -

                          I have made the superstructure a lot more scale like plus moved the rear monitor back to the correct position and also the crane on the back to the correct position where it loads/unloads over the stern of the boat. The problem was with the rudders supplied were fouling the operation of the crane so I fitted scale twin becker rudders (machined down Billings Smit Nederland ones), and now all works well. I wouldn't recommend the motor/ gearbox setup that they suggest, you will hear them screaming from fifty yards away. I fitted direct drive on mine. If you do the deck as suggested it looks appalling, I have used Slaters plasticard chequerplate for mine and is the correct scale appearance.

                          There is a German site dedicated to the building of these models, and is part of the above site -

                          The 'kurz' is the short version and 'lange' is the later modified longer ship.

                          There is a chap on there that has built the long version and has designed a superb operating anchor winch, I built one from his instructions and it works great, it will 'drop' the anchor and when retrieving will auto stop ready to drop again when needed. This could be used on other boats if you use one of the F series sets or switcher modules. His site with vids plus other info is here -

                          Privates Modellbau Portal der Familie Dahmen. Von Ankerwinde über Löschboot Düsseldort 2 bis Smit Rotterdam

                          It took a lot of working out, you do not need the twin stick radio (I took the twin stick out of mine and reverted back to single stick), if you fit the scale bow thruster as I have, and also I have managed to get everything working at the scale speeds (slow rotation and elevation of monitors and the rear crane). Everything can be done with the F14 transmitter if it is fitted with the two slide switches in the central positions with the multi switch prop 12+2. The total cost of the electronics for this boat including speed controllers for main motors and bow thruster, engine sound board, siren, working radar etc, plus all the small geared motors and the controllers for them will come to about £600. So with everything thrown in it will eventually cost about £1000. So when you see this kit advertised for around £150 it is only the basic model, everything else is extra.

                          John

                            hi thanks for the advice bogstandard . i am familiar with those sites after researching a more accurate paint scheme as i find the box art is horrible . I have fettled the navy kompact sets and they are reasonably quiet now i found the was hardly any lash at all in the gears which caused then to scream . which i am glad i did as they would be awkward to remove now . This build is really a trial run to see if i am capable of attempting something a little more complex so i wont be deviating from the kit build too much even though i understand a lot of robbe models are not true to scale . I quite fancy having a go at either billings calypso or model slipways yorkshire man or aziz .

                            I did come across a gent who had chopped his hull in half and added a section in the middle to make the extended version , he also had replaced the front monitor with a crane which brings his model more upto date . Its quite impressive .

                            on a lighter note we have a 3 month old retriever puppy who decided to relieve himself on my laptop power pack , so now i am relegated back to my old one which has a dodgy keyboard so please excuse any typos . scared the hell out of the missus though went with a bang .

                            for those who are interested in the f14 and modules

                              well computer power pack repaired now so i can add a few updates , managed to get the anchor wich and chain stops finished . Also threw some paint on her , its amazing how a bit of paint can bring more of the charecter of a boat out . Started putting her all together now , put the monitors back in but still a long way to go .

                              Oh and yes i am going to clean that overspray up ! :shhhh:

                              :shhhh:
