    New girl with a question

First off, hello everyone!! Thanks for letting me join your group.

I don't know if anyone can help me but I guess it's worth a try.

I was cleaning out my grandfathers attic and found two wooden model ships. I've tried searching the internet to find some info on them but no luck. So now I'm frustrated. I would really like to know a little about them. Is there someplace I can go to find out about these wonderful old boats.

    Here's some info on them.

Small wooden ship, It's a Santa Maria, Made in Holland, and an issue number of 32746

Medium sized ship that seems to be made out of bone. The sails all look like bones or maybe tusks(not that I'm fond of anything made out of an animal but it seems old and interesting). I'm not sure what the actual boat is made of. It has absolutely no information on it.

Any info would be great. Thanks!!

    Howdy Miss Jenna,

First of all, welcome to the forum, we are glad to have you here.

Now on to your ships, I am by no means an expert on ship models, there are those here who know far more than myself, but, you didnt give us alot to work with, is there anyway you could provide photos of the boxes if any, or of the models or both?

I tried a couple of google searches but without knowing a little more info, I really cant come up with anything.

Anyway, again, welcome to the forum,

    Have a good day,

    Greg aka GEEDUBBYA (GW)

Hi Jenna and firstly a warm welcome to the forum. Nice to have another lady with us to share our modelling experiences with.

As for your ships they could be anything from very cheap oriental ready built models of no value through to very collectable hand made models with an age and a quality that could demand a high price.

If there are no identifications on them then we need some pictures to give us an idea of what we are looking at.

Have you any idea how long they have been in your Grandads attic? Can you give us a better idea of thier size. Have a close look at the hulls, are they painted? If not can you see any small nails used in thier construction? Where did you get the information that the small one was made in Holland and, if on a label, are there any other identifying marks apart from the issue number?

Pictures would be a great help in giving you an idea of thier origins. Is your Granddad still with us to ask him about them?
