    Help

Hi to everyone been a member for a while but this is my first post, i am fairly new to model building and am having a bit of a problem, i have built a little 500 club racer, which looks good and has a very good turn of speed, for a short while, then bang everything stops the prop tightens on the shaft tried a couple of washers but it still happened , any ideas would be gratefully received.

    many thanks in anticipation Tony:thinking:

Hi Tony, have only seen the 500 on display and thought the coupling between the motor and prop shaft was rubber tube but if you are using a standard universal joint coupling I fit as follows, prop locked onto shaft with washer between nut and prop a second washer between nut and prop tube bearing with about .5mm/1mm clearance, at the motor end a washer between the brass coupling locked wth a nut still maintaining the .5mm /1mm clearance, what do you use to lub the prop tube? I use very thin grease used on CNC machines, alternativly you can fit an oil pipe and lube with 3 in 1 type oil, hope this helps, regards, Aquarama, If you still have proplem ring me on 01384 373688.

Is it threaded on both ends if so it needs a nut to tighten against the coupling , or is it lack of oil in the shaft

        lock up on club 500

        Hi Tony.

If you fit a washer between the bearing then two nuts then fit the Prop, lock the end nut to the prop with a spanner then lock the 2 nuts together with spanners leaving 1- 1.5 mm float in the shaft, do this both ends i,e. to the coupling. just to add a rider, If you can find thin spanners it will be easier, alternatively I grind them down on the grindstone. if you're using 4mm shafts the nuts usually take a 7mm spanner or a 3B.A will fit. Some people like to fit an oil tube and fill the stern tube with oil, then fit O rings to retain it as this takes less engine power to turn, I personally find this messy and prefer Marine grease and put this in through a tube just the same using a syringe without the needle to pump it in, this method stops the ingress of water up the prop tube as well as lubricating it, p.s. I do the same on the rudder tube.

I hope this helps you, it also may help others who have the same problem.
