Hi am assuming this is an RTR (ready to run) boat as against a kit, check what frequency it operates on it should be on 27mhz AM or 40mhz FM (with inter changeable crystals) to comply with the current regs, also for your own protection you should have 3rd. party insurance so suggest you look for a club near you, I know I sound like a damp squib but I have seen so many disapointed youngsters when their pride and joy suffering from interferance related problems or unable to sail on club leased waters, regards, Aquarama.

Hi, welcome to the crazy world of model boating, be very careful as a lot of these Admiral Boats have a fixed frequency and very short range. The radio gear is all sealed in a plastic box and the boat steers by stopping either the right or the left propeller. Not normally fitted with a Speed controller and don't have reverse. Some Clubs don't like them as they interfere with Club Boats. Give me a shout if you want any help in choosing a proper boat for you and your Grandson

Hi soldier151
Bought this boat a few weeks ago and had great fun with it at Killingworth Lake on many occasions since. The range is fine and of course the spare battery helps.
