    speed controller issue

    hi guys

just made a boat using a 20amp viper speed controller and did my first voyge to day and worked fine ,once i brought theboat back to me just to check on it i turned it of and then when i turned it back on it was totally dead,so went home and opened the boat up and what i noticed is when i turn the power on the speed controller light only goes to red and before on start up it flashed red and green then worked .

    can anyone help me please

ps just been looking at it again and if i press the little button on it it flashes on the green light and then goes to the red one but still nothing

Hi sounds loke it has got de-programmed

      .

Switch on the transmitter and make sure the throttle is exactly in the neutral position, switch on the power to the speedo the red and green lights should flash indicating it is ready to be programmed, you only have about 1 second to press the button, when you do so the green light should flash, move the throttle to full forward then the red light should flash then move the throttle to full reverse then move the throttle back to centre and leave it for a little while it should then be re-programmed.

Then try the throttle it should work, it will then remember this setting every time it is switched on, just give it a few seconds on start up before moving the stick and don't push the button.

      This should sort it out.

      Regards Sub.

            Hi,

You are nearly there, I think you may have been a bit slow with the reverse point... just do it again and be a little quicker with the reverse...the throttle stick needs to be back in the central position when the lights flash for the last time otherwise you go back into program mode again....

            Regards Sub.

Hi, you need the tx switched on and the throttle in the centre, then switch on the speedo. you should get both red + green lights flashing when they do press the button once...you only have about 1 second to do this, now move the throttle forward to its furthest point ( green light on ) now move the throttle to its furthest point reverse ( red light on ) then move it back to the centre.

                This should re-program it.

I don't think its blown or you wouldn't have got forward the last time you tried this ?.

What amps is the motor pulling with the prop you have. If its a new viper then they are un breakable as they shut down internally when overloaded so as not to burn out.

Are you running the radio and the motor off the same battery or are you using a separate radio battery ? and what voltage is it ??

                regards Sub.

                    Interesting.

Ok so you are running BEC ( battery eliminator circuit ) through the speeedo, I take it you are switching on the radio etc with the switch on the speedo ?

If so try disconecting the power from the battery and switch the speedo switch to off...switch the tx on now try putting the power connection together and switching the switch at the same time as pressing the button ( you may have to get someone to help ) you can do it all at once yourself but you need to be quick, and try the reset sequence again.

If you want to run with a separate receiver battery then you will need to remove the RED cable from the speedo plug ( its easy to do all you need to do is lift the tag holding in the lead and it will pull out then tape it back ) this will disconnect the BEC.

As regards St Helens you have a club there, they may be able to help...if not then there is a large model show at Birchwood, Warrington on the Sat / Sun of the August bank holiday...I will be there and can have a look .

Ps can you post a pic of your installation ??

                    Regards Sub.

right then i have not got digi camera but i will explain my set up.on the speed controller i have the battery connector to my battery, the two wires of the speed controller to my motor and the connector of the controller to my reciever ,i tihnk its really hard to wire a electronic controller up wrong really as the battry connector has the plastic male block on it the goes the a feame one on me battery ,motor wires could poss be wrong way round but have checked that ,

the big show at warrington sounds intersting is it good for a bargin or two

                        Hi.

I wouldn,t worry about the wire to the motor as if they are wrong it would only mean that the motor wouldn,t perform to its optimum but it would still work.

So you are getting a red and green flashing led on the speedo when it is first powered up this is good, if you then get the green one and red one during set up and after the button is pressed all would seem to be well....just one question does your transmitter have dual rates function on the throttle stick ?? ie a switch that sets the channel you are using for the throttle movement to a lesser rate ( its used by the fly boys ) just check that it is set to off, you can do this by putting a servo into the throttle channel and moving it back and forth and switching the dual rate on / off the servo should vary in movement, if you have one fitted that is multi channel sets have them 2 channel don.t ( usually ).

Just wondering if it has been accidentaly switched on ( it has been done before ! ) If one is fitted that is.

Have you tried the total power down and re power up and set as my last post ??

You have to be quick in setting that button, it says 2 secs in the blurb but im my experince its no where near that much quicker .

Te the show at Birchwood there will be a lot of model boat clubs there + traders and a Chandlery too.

                        Regards Sub.
