Some may already know of this and certainly steaming planks to shape is nothing new but I stumbled on it by accident and it may help others. Wanting to produce a cylinder from 1mm ply I first cut the flat sheet to size, soaked it and then wrapped it tightly around a former of the correct internal diameter. Carefully checking the wife was out of range, I then put the ply and former in an 800W microwave for 30secs. A spurt of steam, a faint whiff of hot wood and then I left it to cool. When removed from the former the ply retained a perfect cylindrical shape. Caution - make sure you ventilate the microwave before the wife gets back....
