Restoring a Tribal Class Destroyer to her former glory

Hello to all, I'm new here and have to say straightaway that this is and amazing site! I actually have a model of HMS Sikh (Tribal Class Destroyer L82/F82/G82) which was built by one of her crew. It was given to my father when he was a boy and he has now passed it on to me. It is over a meter long and entirely hand built, but in desperate need of restoration. I've built quite a few models including ships, but I think I could use any advice on offer seeing as she is over 50 years old.

    Thanks for everything!

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys, will try and post some of my attempts at modeling. No where near as much experience as you guys, and I have to say some stunning models and dioramas!

I have a bit of a problem in that the hull of the boat is not entirely smooth. Are there any techniques or specific products i should use?

Oh that would be most helpful Kiwi! Would you mind awfully taking some pictures of the plans for the superstructure?

              Thanks very much!
