Hi All. Just surfed by and discovered the site , i have been on Rc Groups.com before , but it is nice to have a site here in the UK. I have attached a couple of pics of boats i have built , they are not a patch on some of the excellent models on here , but i enjoyed building them , any comments would be most welcome.Riva Aquarama , scale ish scratch built , silver plated fittings , leather seats etc.

Victory, not a galleon. A man-of-war surely ! Just an excuse to remind everyone that this is the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar,lots of events throughout the UK...and I`ll never forgive Nelson for that "ENGLAND expects...." bit. The Riva , was it finished in epoxy ? Nice freelance sternwheeler, you are too modest. There is a web-site for paddlewheelers with a lot on U.S. sternwheelers plus UK, Oz and European paddle-ships. Thanks guys , your comments are very much appreciated. The finish on the Riva was achieved by use of 0.6 mm cabinet makers veneer , individual planks / caulking and sections, over 1.5mm birch ply. I then spent several hours sanding down to 1000 grit . The wood was sealed with 5 or 6 coats of sanding sealer , flatted in between with 800 grit dry paper. The high gloss was achieved with 4 coats of 2 pack automotive lacquer. This is a professional use material as it can be hazardous to health , I am in the motor trade so it wasn't a problem :thumbs-up .

The Victory was built from a Aeropiccola kit , it was my first attempt at something as complicated as this , took about 200 hrs. It is the usual double plank on frame , i would recomend Aeropiccola , nice wood , good fitting parts etc. The only problem i had was getting the Yellow the right shade for the hull , out of a tin , so i had to mix my own.

I have added a coupl of pics of my latest boat , a Stancraft torpedo , the hull shape says it all :smile1:

Hi all , just an update of pics of the Torpedo i am building . She is about complete now , just waiting for some bits to come back from the platers. She has also aquired a name , "Shoshone " , i was reading a wild west history book on holiday and thought it sounded good , it is a Native American Imdian Tribe.

Forgot to ask in the last post , i am thinking of making a hood for the Torpedo , the type with a folding frame , like on the old Ford model T etc so it will fold back , behind the luggage area. I would be obliged for any info or links to pics / info etc , to help with the idea.

Cant help with frame design but I can suggest a covering material. Solartex used for covering model aircraft , available in many colours. If you are not familiar with it ,it is a heat-shrink close-woven fabric with heat activated adhesive . An ordinary household iron will do, cuts well with sharp scissors. Scrounge a few scraps that every aeromodeller has under the bench ! Tough, water-proof, with a scale "weave" look. There is also a gloss version if you want a plastic look, with no visible weave, called Glosstex. An old umbrella might be a good source of bits-n-pieces for framework. Hope this helps.

Nice one Duncan , never thought of the old Umbrella idea , comes with pre made joints also :thumbs-up . Missus may have to get wet this week :shucks:
